…with this beautiful photograph on which horses and jockeys look towards to… the future…the year 2019 arrives!!
All the members of the stables E&G. Leenders send you their best wishes for 2019.
We have serious hopes for our young horses but also with the confirmed and older ones who do their work well!!
Best wishes to all of you…
…in a “quinté” (big handicap) for Sébastien Martino with SINNARI at Chantilly on December 26th… A nice Christmas present.
We are all very happy that Sébastien won his first “quinté” for us… he gets on really well with the horse and rode him to perfection.
Sébastien started working for us about 6 months ago and he adapted quite well to the life in Anjou…and we have already a good percentage of success together.
Furthermore, other trainers regularly call him for successful rides.
Well done Sébastien.
When winning Prix d’Epsom, the “quinté” (big handicap) of the day at Chantilly on December 26th SINNARI offered us a good surprise… we knew the horse was well and had improved…but not to the point to win in such a way… he did surprise us!
Ridden with a lot of confidence by Sébastien Martino, the horse took the lead from the start and gave the race a good rhythm… and from the entrance of the finishing straight, Sébastien launched his horse and could not be rejoined.
SINNARI is a good horse who will provide us with more good surprises in 2019.
Bred by his highness The Aga Khan, this horse is well bred: his sire is Oasis Dream and his dam Siyenica is the half-sister of Siyouni… therefore a superb pedigree.
Best wishes to all of you for a very HAPPY CHRISTMAS.
From Etienne, Grégoire and Christine Leenders
DARHAGRETI ran at Pau on December 22nd over hurdles in Prix Cercle Anglais. It was his 3rd race and he finished 4th. Getting off his horse, Félix de Gilles, his jockey told us: “A good horse with a potential, but late”.
That is why he debuted over jumps quite late and we took our time with him.
…finished 7th at Pau in Prix Cercle Anglais: a hurdle race for 3 year-olds over 2 miles and 1 ½ furlong. He is a really good horse as he knows how to jump and finish and this race doesn’t reflect his level.
But it was a wrong day for Clément Lefebvre who didn’t ride according to instructions (went in front, up with the pace and the horse was not able to finish).
FANTASTIC BERE will be back in 2019 he’ll run in our area at the beginning of the year and he’ll show us what he is able to do.
…for FRANSLEEN at Pau on December 19th, ridden by Stéphane Paillard.
He finished 3rd in Prix Monein, a maiden hurdle race for 3 year-olds over 2 miles and 1 ½ furlong.
Slightly “surprised” over some hurdles, FRANSLEEN stayed in his pace to finish but hasn’t lost our esteem at all!
Like his dam Quristine, he is a late horse and we had chosen to run him on the flat at the beginning of his career… (3 times in the frame).
This race at Pau will do him a lot of good… and we know we have a good horse for 2019.
On December 18th at Pau, DEAUSEILLE ran a chase: Prix A. de Portago over 3900m (2 miles and 3 1/2 furlongs). She didn’t finish her race, Stéphane Paillard stopped her…
Explanation: he was too offensive in his way to ride her (the instructions were 5th /6th) and the mare could not breathe properly… as a result when they accelerated, she couldn’t cope and Stéphane had to stop her. Actually it was nearly a comeback race as she did not finish her last two races because she fell.
There is something positive about this race at Pau… She performed a perfect race, jumped well without any hesitation and she didn’t seem to fear the fences.
It is infuriating because we know she is a good mare, but success isn’t there yet!
…for TINARILOU at Deauville on December 14th ridden by Sébastien Martino. In Prix de la Roche d’Oetre over 2500m (a mile and 4 ½ furlongs), the nice grey filly started in 5th, 6th position, kept her place all around and out of the bend she started accelerating with the rest of the field. Mid-straight, TINARILOU slightly took the lead… two other horses attacked her… the winner took two lengths and there was a photograph for second and third place.
Sébastien was disappointed: ”at mid straight, I was sure to win but once she had taken the advantage, she slightly pulled herself back and it cost me the second place.” She was 3rd in a good style: courageous, determined… and for the future, we now know that she shouldn’t take the advantage too soon.
MAINVILLIERS won first time out Prix d’Echarbot, a hurdle race for 3 year-olds over 3400m (2 times and one furlong). He started in the middle of the field, was very professional, negotiated each jump well…then at the entrance of the finishing straight, he arrived at the last hurdle in 3rd position and finished very fast on the outside.
Commentary of his jockey Clément Lefebvre: “He is not fully mature but has a big potential!”
MAINVILLIERS had some pressure because his brother is LE GRAND LUCE, a star of Auteuil… he is by Dream Well out of Réaction Rapide.
Bred by Haras de Maulepaire, he belongs to 4 partners: Madame de Tarragon, Richard Corveller, Loic Glemin and Douglas McMillan.
Congratulations to them as they were patient with him. Actually, MAINVILLIERS being a late horse, they gave him his chance and didn’t try to do more than he was able to.
At Seiches sur le Loir on December 2nd , FASTELLE ran first time out in a flat race for 3 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) over 2700m (a mile and 5 ½ furlongs). Ridden by Sébastien Martino, she ran well: was serious, straight like a real professional who has done that all her life!! It didn’t go as well in the last bend when she had to turn far outside which cost her a better place according to Sébastien. She finished good 3rd.
FASTELLE is by Legolas out of Prestelle. She belongs to Gold and Blue and was bred by Isabelle de Saint Anthost. This winter we’ll train her over jumps and discuss with her owners about her future career.
…for FORLAS D’AIRY at Le Mans on November 26th. He finished 2nd in Prix de l’Aunay, a maiden race for 3 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) colts and geldings over 2300m (a mile and 3 ½ furlongs).
FORLAS ran well except that in the finishing straight he was very baby like and afraid of the others according to Pierre Charles Boudot.
FORLAS D’AIRY is by Legolas out of Norsa d’Airy and belongs to his breeder Claude Yves Pelsy.
…in better weather conditions !
Actually we expected a good performance of FOTE, a 3 year-old filly who ran her second race at Le Mans on November 26th. But she didn’t meet our expectations and finished unplaced.
Pierre Charles Boudot told us that in the far straight she was already beaten probably because she was not at ease on this sticky going. To see again…
Motivated owners! Whether it is windy, or rainy or snowy… they are always there when their horses run (and believe me it was very cold at Le Mans, such a weather not to have an owner out!!).
Thank you to Luc, Jean-Philippe, Didier, Pascal and his wife, Florence and Marie-France to take time to send us videos and photos to show us everything happening before and after the race.
Anyway, I do hope they didn’t get a cold…
At Le Mans on November 26th good race of TINARILOU in Prix du Mesnil in which she finished 3rd, only beaten by a very short nose for the second place.
Ridden by Sébastien Martino, she proved to be courageous to finish on a very heavy and sticky track and she was quite at ease over 2300m (a mile and 3 ½ furlongs).
We are reassured as we found the “true” TINARILOU back. Actually she had a blank and we could not find the real reasons.
As Etienne said: “Sébastien has now a new FILLE D’AVRIL for next year. “Only the persons in the know will understand”!!
We are pleasantly surprised by LIVIA ROYALE, because each time out she is improving and proves her qualities (courageous, good jumper, and so on…) which we didn’t expect at the start.
At Nantes she finished 3rd in a hurdle race for 3 year-olds over 3100m (1 mile and 7 ½ furlongs) ridden by Baptiste Dubourg.
How enthusiastic the 3 owners were, Luc Josse, François Audoin and Antoine Simon…
And as Grégoire and Gabriel say: “it is also for that reason we do this job, to bring people this kind of pleasure!”
…At Angers on November 14th, IL DECOIFFE won Prix David d’ Angers brilliantly,byThéo Bachelot. ridden
He started in the lead, was quite at ease in front and enjoyed himself.*
At the entrance of the finishing straight, he accelerated strongly and was not caught.
You can guess that there was vibration in the stand of Angers!
At Angers on November 14th, DUTCH DOCTOR finished 2nd, beaten a short nose in a handicap for 4 year-old and upwards over 2100m (a mile and 2 ½ furlongs).
That can happen to everyone and it does regularly, but this time, it was really bad luck.
Actually, in the finishing straight DUTCH DOCTOR took the lead, gained ground, ….you then thought it was done, but at three steps from the post, he slipped…was stopped and the future winner came to beat him.
Pierre-Charles Boudot was sorry about it and told us: “I was taken by surprise and could not do anything about it.
…over jumps in her 3rd chase at Angers on November 11th. In Prix Wladimir Hall, she performed a nice race. Her jockey, Stéphane Paillard told us:
”CRACANTE made a few mistakes because there was no pace and with her long stride she could not move properly in the field.”
Nevertheless she won and we celebrated with champagne with Paul Terpereau, her owner, and the family La Guillonnière her breeders and the trainers and the trainers’ wives!
…Every year on the race-course of Angers, a trotting race is organized for flat or jump trainers and jockeys.
And once more, Grégoire accepted to take part in this race…He had no pressure at all because his horse was disqualified in his last 4 races… and what happened?
In the far straight when it was time to accelerate, his horse started galloping…
Grégoire was disappointed but, for God sake, you can’t do miracles.
Nevertheless the flat and jump professionals were thrilled to have spent some good time together and the public love that!
Thank you to the organizers of racing at Angers for these good times.
At Saint-Cloud on November 9th, TINARILOU finished 5th, ridden by Coralie Pacaut.
The filly pulled a bit from the start because we had decided to equip her with cheek pieces. Actually in her previous races, she jumped too slowly out of the stalls and lost ground that she could not redo.
Coralie told us: “when I launched her, she reacted well but kept in the same pace and she paid for it to finish… I could have been 3rd”. What was nice was that we had nearly a live broadcast (before and after the race) organized by William Tadjou (one of the partners of the syndicate Le Pied à l’Etrier)…Thank you to him… Marie-France and Didier could not be there!!
DEAUSEILLE ran at Compiègne on November 9th in a chase for 4 and 5 year-old fillies and mares over 3900m (2 miles and 3 ½ furlongs).
Ridden by Hugo Lucas, she performed a nice race, jumped well but unfortunately at the big black fence in the far straight, she came close to the foot of the fence which she touched with her knees and her jockey fell.
As a result: DEAUSEILLE was caught back and had no problem but Lucas had a dislocation of the shoulder (meaning a month off minimum). It is bad luck because DEAUSEILLE is a mare we estimate but nothing goes the way we would like with her.
When finishing 2nd in Prix Cacao, a big handicap at Auteuil on November 3rd, RADIOLOGUE ran very well.
Over 4400m (2 miles and 6 furlongs) this chase was not an easy race. Actually, all “quintés” (big handicaps) are races with a lot of rhythm.
Stéphane Paillard, his jockey, started in the middle of the field, everything went fine…he came closer in the last bend and RADIOLOGUE finished very well.
This courageous horse will eventually win his “quinté”.
…at Maisons-Laffitte, there were sales for jump horses organized by Osarus: you had foals, yearlings, two-year-olds and horses in training.
We sold our yearling DOCDEN by Doctor Dino out of Caprice Flore for 29.000 euros to Hubert Barbe (Horse Racing Advising) for an Irish owner, Tony Castello.
And we bought JUNTA DREAM, a two-year-old filly by Dream Well out of Junta des Champs for 5.000 euros.
…our “COIFFEUR” (hairdresser).
At Saint-Cloud on October 30th, IL DECOIFFE ridden by Pierre Charles Boudot, ran well and finished 5th in a handicap for 3 year-old horses over 2000m (10 furlongs).
We are looking forward to his next race (you probably noticed it is the same thing for each horse each time!!!)
On October 30th at Fontainebleau, ELAFONISSI was 4th ridden by Félix de Gilles.
It was a chase for 4 year-old horses over 3600m (2 miles and 2 furlongs).
She was ridden in the middle of the field, a bit far back (according to her jockey) but the filly jumped well and finished well. It was her second chase and ELAFONISSI seemed to be quite at ease…therefore her future is written!
Our winner of Président de la République 2014, TZAR’S DANCER is retiring this autumn 2018.
It is not enough to say that this horse gave us huge joys and big professional satisfactions, it is more than that! For us it was mainly a very nice human story, with Marie Cécile de Saint Seine her breeder owner who trusted us with him in training, with Pierric Rouxel, manager of Haras de Maulepaire (where he was born) who looked after him during his “off” times, with his jockey Wilfrid Denuault who was so close to him and won nice races… and with his morning riders who did a fantastic job with him.
Thank you to all of them…
His future: a rest all winter at Les Landes, then in spring he will go to Normandy where he will join: Joseille, Amirant, Gondleen, Marceti and Echo des Mottes.
EVORA finished 3rd on October 29th at Sables d’Olonne in Prix de Kerbiriou: a race for 4 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) over 2700m (a mile and 5 ½ furlongs).
Her last race at Fontainebleau was quite average and we were a bit disappointed.
Ridden by Sébastien Martino, she started in 5th position and kept this place all around. When they did start at the entrance of the last bend, EVORA was blocked in the middle of the others and as Sébastien told us: “she was shy and didn’t dare to go through” but once she was well balanced in the finishing straight, she finished very well.
From now on she will go jumping.
Shall I dare to say it? Yes, I dare “she made us crack up! OK it is schoolboy humor, but it is good now and then … to let horses go!! ( if I dare to say so).
CRACANTE performed a very nice race at Meslay du Maine in a chase over 4200m (2 miles and 5 furlongs). This late mare resumed competition recently (she was off for a long time following an injury) and she has leeway to make up (races, prize money, etc…)
For her second race in this discipline and on the demanding race-course of Meslay du Maine, she ran remarkably well.
And it is not her young jockey Elie Berthonnet who will say the opposite.
…FRIANDISE GIRL at Nantes on October 27th in Prix de l’ Avenir: a Gr III for 3 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) over a mile and a half.
She didn’t take a good start and stayed too far back during the race and, when they accelerated, it was a mess and our filly who is a big mover could not gallop as she wanted!
When he got off, Sébastien Martino, her jockey said:” I didn’t ride the best of race”! At least it is honest to recognize it…
To see again…
FREQUENCE MAG finished 3rd at Angers on October 26th in Prix Francis Chêne, a good race (Class 2) over 2300m (a mile and 3 ½ furlongs).
Ridden by Sébastien Martino, she started in 5th, 6th position, came closer in the far straight…and finished very well.
In this race, there are always good horses entered and FREQUENCE MAG did a good rating when finishing 3rd.
On October 26th at Angers, DUTCH DOCTOR finished 3rd in Prix Rabelais, ridden by Cristian Demuro.
He started in the middle of the field and kept his place as far as the end of the bend. But at the entrance of the finishing straight, DUTCH DOCTOR had a “curtain” of horses in front of him….it was not easy to find an opening… and when he managed to get out, DUTCH finished very well.
Cristian told us: “I liked him, he was a bit spiritless at the beginning but then proved to be courageous. He won’t have any problem to win a race on Parisian tracks.
Racing: they are joys, sorrows, disappointments, great times, etc… anyway it is not an exact science!
Yesterday at Angers, BONNE MEMOIRE ran disappointingly: she is an estimated filly who didn’t run her value… “she was weak all around” Sébastien Martino told us. With cold weather in the morning, warm during the day and cold in the evening, horses are sensitive and can catch anything… To see again.
FANTASTIC BERE: we were close to a catastrophe: he was first a bit spiritless… then started to go forward and suddenly pulled a lot!! We thought it was because of the blinkers… but when talking with Coralie Pacault, his jockey, she told us that someone galloped in his hind legs at some stage and it was then he started pulling… And when a horse pulls, he can’t finish. Actually we could see he had several slight wounds on his hind legs. This morning, everything is fine!
As to DE BON ALOI, it was a good surprise, he didn’t finish in the first five, but his young jockey Damien Boche, told us he was quite cooperative… A miracle? No, he only does what he wants when he wants it…not easy that one…maybe next time??
DEAUSEILLE fell at the water jump (rivière du huit) at Auteuil on October 25th in a chase for 5 year-olds over 4300m (2 miles and 5 ½ furlongs).
Thomas Beaurain, her jockey, was very sorry because the mare was going well and we know she has a potential. Once more, this “rivière du huit” was a problem…this water jump has provoked many falls for years and according to discussions in a committee, it will be changed next year.
…TINARILOU who finished 6th in spite of an unplanned scenario!
Ridden by Maëlle Le Levreur, she took a good start but was soon covered by horses from the outside and at Le Pin, you get quickly in the first bend and therefore it is not easy to regain your place. And at the entrance of the very long straight, Maëlle had the good idea to plunge along the rail which allowed the filly to have a space to finish well… unfortunately they were 5 together, head, short head, nose, head …Unlucky…
It was in Prix du Haras de Fresnay Le Buffard over 2350m (a mile and 3 ¾ furlongs).
Keep going sweetie, you’ll eventually manage!!
…for FEU D’ARTIFICE at Cholet on October 21st, ridden by Sébastien Martino. He was a serious 4th in Prix France Galop: a flat race for unraced 3 year-olds over 2950m (14 furlongs ¾ ). This big horse needed to run because he works well in the morning but flat racing is not his sport! This race did him a lot of good and he will go on working over jumps.
FEU D’ARTIFICE (I looooove his name!) is by Coastal Path out of Karte Bleue and he belongs to Béatrice Nicco and François Fiol.
…won at Lignières on October 22nd in Prix Saint Galmier, a flat, maiden race for 3 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) over 2 miles. Well placed all around, FEZ found herself boxed in at the end of the bend… and when she managed to get out, the winner and the second had gone forward and…too late…
Her jockey, Wilfried Lajon, was a bit disappointed to be 3rd, because being boxed in cost him the win.
Considering the way she finished, she should soon open her record.
On Sunday morning, we had the pleasure to discover the two reports which were done at the beginning of September on our two syndicates Le Pied A L’Etrier and Le Mors aux Dents, both at the races at Lion d’Angers and during the picnic we organize every year. It was definitely a success and we can thank the two journalists: Katherine Ford and Thibault Marlin because they managed to explain the philosophy of our two syndicates.
Their unusual idea was to compare syndicates who have different approach and financial means: in England a business syndicate with important funds and our syndicates which have less means and a more family approach.
But at the end of the reports, we could see that for the English as well as for the French, it was the same thing: passion for races and horses, pleasure to meet with the partners and spend a good day, conviviality… the only difference is that the English syndicates have a few zeros more on their bank account!!!
On November 2nd at the sales Osarus at Maisons-Laffitte, we present DOCDEN, born in April 2017 by Doctor Dino out of Caprice Flore. The yearling colt is prepared by Haras de la Haie Neuve who are going to present him at the sales.
DOCDEN belongs to one of our good families. In his pedigree you find:
CAPRICE MEILL always in the frame in big handicaps and Listed races.
RENNETI Gr 2 winner on the flat and over jumps in Ireland (which is rare at this level of competition) and further down in the family you have MAIA ERIA, multiple Group winner at Auteuil, etc…
On October 19th at Moulins, FLAIRON won with authority Prix d’Estruval, a maiden for 3 year-olds AQPS (non-thoroughbred) over a mile and a half. He started in the middle of the field, came closer in the last bend, started accelerating and took the lead…but the fight with the second was tough and at some stage we thought we were beaten but FLAIRON made an ultimate effort to win by half a length.
Debriefing of Pierre Charles Boudot: “I think FLAIRON must be good because he pulled for some part of the race and nevertheless finished very well with a lot of courage!!”
…she ran quite well!
FARAFRA, a valuable filly, finished 3rd at Moulins on October 19th in Prix Yves d’Armaillé, a race for 3 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred). Ridden by Pierre Charles Boudot, she started in the lead and temporized all around. Well balanced in the last straight, she finished well but kept on moving in the same way and was beaten by two good horses who finished faster.
FARAFRA will not run over jumps…therefore you’ll see her in all the good races for 3 year-olds this year and next year as a 4 year-old.
…finished 6th on Sunday in Prix André Adèle, a handicap chase (in which the punters have to find the first five).
Ridden by Hugo Lucas who had to force him to gallop as the pace was very fast because the distance was too short, 3500m (2 miles and 1 ½ furlong).
RADIOLOGUE is a good horse and we still trust him…he is quite able to win this type of race.
I am writing a new heading to let everyone know about horses or mares of our stables (Ecurie E and G. Leenders) who are either on sale or to lease…
The heading will be: Horse on sale
I’ll answer all the inquiries.
You can get in touch with me, Christine Leenders, +33 6 86 84 42 31
GREAT WEDDING: a 2 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) filly by Dream Well out of Trotot. She is the second foal of Trotot. The first one is a 4 year-old filly EN TEMPS VOULU, who has already started a nice career: 9 races and 8 times in the frame including a win on the flat at Pornichet and a win in a chase at Craon.
This is our good family because Trotot is the half-sister of DELIRANT and of FAN OF SEA (one of the best 3 year-old AQPS in 2018).
This filly has just arrived at our stables after 2 months breaking and pre-training at Sylvain Bosson’s who told us a lot of good about her.
We are selling 50% of her as we want to retain her in a partnership.
Nice race of our IL DECOIFFE…he finished 2nd on October 11th at Saint-Cloud in a handicap for 3 year-olds over 2100m (a mile and 2 ½ furlongs).
Ridden by Théo Bachelot, he started in 7th, 8th position, entered the finishing straight at this same place, and then well balanced, our “hairdresser” performed a fantastic finish.
Théo was a bit sorry: ”I wanted to place him in a good position but he defended himself. It is a pity because I am sure that if I could have had him closer sooner, I would have won…
A good horse for the future!
...for DEAUSEILLE at Bordeaux on October 9th in a chase for 5 year-old horses. Ridden by Hugo Lucas, she performed a nice race and jumped very well. She finished 4th.
She found it hard to finish because she was not 100%, having been stopped several weeks following a hematoma she had when she fell at Lion d’Angers.
Little by little she will go up the scales… because the objective is to run at Auteuil.
We are very sad to inform you that Michel Marchal passed away… he was 98.
Our partnership, which with time turned into a solid friendship, started in 1984. He was introduced to us by Vicomte de la Grandière (an important owner in the west) with whom he was associated for two horses.
And yet everything started in a very bad way between us. Monsieur Marchal had asked us to buy a horse for him as he wanted to have horses in his own colors. On a Monday, we sold him a horse we had in training and three days later that horse killed himself on the track!
Just imagine how difficult it was to tell him the news. Etienne was a young trainer, we had hardly 10 horses and we could see the end of this future collaboration.
After hearing the bad news, Monsieur Marchal said: “Monsieur Leenders, I have made up my mind to trust you in spite of that…find another horse for me”…Following this, Etienne and I decided that for the future whenever there would be a horse for sale in the stables, Monsieur Marchal would be the first one to have the offer…
We are very sad as it is a page of our professional life turning away and we have lost a friend.
…the horses who ran under the famous colors white with a blue Saint Andrew cross and a red cap:
Triptolème, Pickland, Echo des Mottes, Pankgor Laut, Proud Master, Quiniland, L’Artiste Français, Cœur de Rocker, Nirja, Pierreti, Un Succès, Joseille, Honores Quercus, Amirant, Quristine, Kusea, Pour Toi Georges, Accentus, Fransleen, Deriganou.
…Luc Josse with LIVIA ROYALE who opened her record at Vitré in a hurdle race for 3 year-olds over 3400m (2 miles and 1 furlong).
Ridden by Stéphane Paillard, they didn’t bother with tactics… let those who love me follow me! And all around the filly galloped, jumped well and finished very well.
LIVIA ROYALE is by Maresca Sorrento out of Royale Landry…she belongs to 3 pals: Luc Josse, François Audoin and Antoine Simon and was bred by David Lumet.
I guess the partners celebrated this win!
…it is only a matter of time! “one day you’ll win your race dear DOUX DINGUE…I have the idea that maybe your breeders should not have called you so, they might have offended you!!” (DOUX DINGUE= happy loony).
Let’s sum up the race: ridden by Hugo Lucas, he was second at Angers over hurdles. He ran remarkably well, jumped well and….he didn’t accelerate in the finishing straight, kept in his own pace… didn’t go less fast though but didn’t go quicker either!!
But you are going to see when it rains, when the ground is heavier, DOUX DINGUE will make short work of his competitors and he will then show us who is the boss (at last, I hope so!)
…by his second place, the esteem we have for him…he improves because he met a better company than when he won at Cholet.
At Angers on October 5th, SINNARI ran a superb race…ridden by Sébastien Martino, he was well placed close to the lead all around and performed a nice finishing straight.
Sébastien told us: “the ground was well watered and it was not a help because SINNARI prefers firmer ground…!”
(We are not going to complain when the ground is good, let’s leave it to the embittered ones who are never happy!)
At Nantes, it was a pleasure to see FRIANDISE GIRL win, ridden by Pierre Charles Boudot. Therefore, she opened her record. She was well placed all around in 3rd, 4th position and at the entrance of the finishing straight, blinker to the left and …vroum!!! to the winning post. Pierre Charles was happy with his filly “very serious and more professional than first time out at Fontainebleau.”
Congratulations to her owner Maryse Burel and to her breeders Families Saliou and Ventrou.
FAN OF SEA won Prix du Bourbonnais (Gr 2), a flat race for 3 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) over a mile and a half.
What a good race!
He took the lead from the start and kept it all around… At the end of the bend, he started going forward, but at mid straight, the horse who eventually finished second, came to attack him… but FAN OF SEA resisted to win by a head… What a relief!
Gregory Benoist, his jockey, was enthusiastic: ”A good, very courageous horse”.
The family can be proud because FAN OF SEA comes from the breeding operation Gondouin- Leenders, the grand dam L’Allier produced Gondleen, Kusea, Chriseti, L’Artiste Français, then Kusea produced Délirant (by Khalkevi), FAN OF SEA (by Shamalgan) and the youngest one Hommage (by Gris de Gris)…
…the performance of FARAFRA in this same race: Prix du Bourbonnais. She finished 3rd, close to the winner and the second.
Ridden by Pierre Charles Boudot who said: “she has not lost my esteem, but she will be much better on heavy going and she is a good filly with a margin of improvement.”
She will run all the classic races on the flat.
On September 28th at Saint-Cloud, SI SIBYLLINE ran very well, finishing 4th in a divided handicap on the flat over a mile.
Ridden by Pierre Charles Boudot, she started in the middle of the field, found it hard to find a way out, but from the moment she had an opening, she performed an incredible finishing straight.
Looking forward to her next entry!
…EN TEMPS VOULU. She finished 4th in a chase at Craon on September 24th, ridden by Hugo Lucas. She met a good company and has not to be ashamed of her performance.
We are going to give her a few weeks holiday, because actually she has been on the go since February and she did her best in every race.
On September 23rd at Niort, FEZ ran first time out in a maiden race for 3 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred). She finished 3rd.
Ridden by Sébastien Martino, she performed a serious and professional race for a beginner: was well placed around and finished well. We look forward to seeing her next time out. FEZ is by Coastal Path out of Quisis, she belongs to Comte AA. Maggiar and was bred in Nièvre by Hervé d’Armaillé. We like her very much because she is the half-sister of Bourgueil…our good cross-country horse who unfortunately died last year.
Indeed we always enjoy winning at Craon because it is THE race-course of the trainers of the west of France and the public and the professionals enjoy to see them win. And, on Sunday 23rd of September our RADIOLOGUE gave us this pleasure in Prix O. d’Andigné, a chase over 3700m (2 miles and 2 ½ furlongs).
I think horse and jockey Hugo Lucas enjoyed themselves…their race was easy and smooth and they won easily.
And what about the joy of the owners: father and son Loic and Benjamin Glemin… Moments like that make us forget about the difficulties of this job!
…the first race of BONNE MEMOIRE: two reasons for that… she is a filly we like and she is the sister of our dear DE BON ALOI…
At Craon on September 22nd, in a maiden race for two-year-olds over 1650m (a mile and ¼ furlong), she finished 4th in a pleasant way. Ridden by Sébastien Martino, BONNE MEMOIRE didn’t jump well out of the stalls but her jockey quickly put her in the race. Outside the bend she was in 6th, 7th position…and well accompanied by her jockey she performed a very nice finishing straight.
We are satisfied because the horse who finished in front of her had already run and seem to be estimated by their respective trainers.
BONNE MEMOIRE is by Pedro The Great out of Bonne Gargotte, she was bred by Haras de Maulepaire and belongs to Paul Terpereau.
At Craon on September 22nd, FREQUENCE MAG opened her record with class…She pleased us a lot.
In Prix du Maine, a maiden race for 3 year-old horses over a mile and a half, her jockey Sébastien Martino placed her in 3rd, 4th position all around and at the entrance of the finishing straight, well balanced, she started and won easily.
As a reminder, FREQUENCE MAG is by Gris de Gris out of Gravure Célèbre, she was bred by her owner Comte Audoin Maggiar.
…FLAIRON. He pleased us a lot when finishing 3rd in Prix Baron de la Rochette: a race for 3 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) colts and geldings over 2600m (a mile and 5 furlongs).
Actually he doesn’t show much in the morning but obviously does his job well in the afternoon. Ridden by Pierre Charles Boudot, he started along the rail behind the favorite…and when they accelerated to finish, he was blocked in and could not get out.
When getting off, Pierre Charles said: ”It’s a pity, I should have taken the lead and FLAIRON would have been able to use his quality of big mover… I would have won.” (If the jockey says it!!).
FLAIRON is by Khalkevi out of Preuve d’Amour, he belongs to Douglas McMillan and was bred by JN. Tige.
For the petty side of history, it was a Leenders finish in this race: 1st Gabriel…2nd Norbert…3rd Etienne and Grégoire… Nice, isn’t it??
FRIANDISE GIRL ran very well, she finished 2nd in Prix Jean Gillois: a maiden race for 3 year-old AQPS fillies over 2600m (a mile and 5 furlongs).
Ridden by Pierre Charles Boudot, she took the lead, performed a nice race and finished well…
We are very pleased with this first race as she is a temperamental filly with a strong personality. We hoped she would behave….and she did!
FRIANDISE GIRL is by Hurricane Cat out of Nutz, she runs under the colors of Madame Maryse Burel and was bred by the Saliou and Ventrou families.
The stand of Cholet never vibrated as much and believe me the atmosphere will stay long in the history of the race course. The owners and friends of Ecurie Five supported their horse SINNARI all along the straight… Actually it was a first winner for Ecurie Five.
Ridden by Sébastien Martino, the horse started in 2nd, 3rd position, took the lead at the end of the last bend…and when he started accelerating, it was done…SINNARI was better than the company in this handicap for 3 year-olds over 1900m (a mile and 1 ½ furlong).
We are quite satisfied as we claimed this horse at Deauville 3 weeks ago…
SINNARI is by Oasis Dream out of Siyenica and was bred by SCEA Aga Khan.
Cherry on the cake, it was also a first win of Sébastien Martino for us as he just joined our team 10 days ago.
At Longchamp on September 12th, DUTCH DOCTOR finished 2nd, ridden by Pierre Charles Boudot. In Prix Esplanade, a handicap for 4 year-olds and upwards over a mile and a half, he ran remarkably well. Well placed in 4th position all around, he started going forward without any effort, and then accelerated together with the winner… it was a good fight along the finishing straight… Photograph at the post: head!!!
On September 12th at Compiègne, TZAR’S DANCER finished 5th in a chase, Prix des Rouges Terres over 3800m (2 miles and 3 furlongs). Ridden by Thomas Beaurain, he ran well and we can’t reproach him anything, except that this nice and good horse is getting old and has not the same finish as before.
FRANSLEEN is a good horse, he has just finished 3rd in Prix Le Pontet: a maiden race for 3 year-olds over 2600m (a mile and 5 furlongs) at Châteaubriant, ridden by Sébastien Martino. He started in 6th, 7th position, came closer in the far straight but he didn’t really manage to accelerate in the finishing straight…he has not the turn of foot for that.
Therefore, FRANSLEEN will now go jumping… Considering his pedigree, we are not worried… His sire is No Risk At All and his dam Quristine (winner on the flat and over jumps) comes from the good families of the La Guillonnière breeding operation.
…for SI SIBYLINNE on September 5th at Longchamp ridden by Pierre Charles Boudot.
In Prix de la Fontaine Neuve, a handicap for 3 year-olds over 7 furlongs, she was in 6th, 7th position all around, found it a bit difficult to change gear, but eventually finished very well.
The first five were in a very close finish: head, short head, short head, short head… and SI SIBYLINNE was 5th…
She pleased us very much because she was very courageous.
When winning easily Prix Richard de Gennes at Craon on September 3rd, FAN OF SEA pleased us a lot. He won previously at Sables easily but this new win confirmed the esteem we have for him. His jockey Pierre Charles Boudot only said: “A good horse”…
His next races? The classic races for 3 year-olds.
On September 3rd at Craon, EVORA was 3rd in Prix Beauchêne, a race for 4 and 5 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) over a mile and a half.
Ridden by Pierre Charles Boudot, she started in the middle of the field but was very uncomfortable to enter the last bend… she had to go and turn on the very outside… but thanks to the quality of the filly and the energy of the jockey, they managed to get the 3rd place!!! We are looking forward to see her in her next races.
On September 2nd at Craon, RADIOLOGUE finished 3rd ridden by Stéphane Paillard. In Prix Claude Rouget, a chase over 4200m (2 miles and 5 furlongs), he did a nice performance, was serious and finished well as usual.
He will take the direction of Auteuil for his next races.
On September 1st, we organized (as we do every year) our picnic for our syndicates. For the first time we had the members of the two syndicates Le Pied A L’ Etrier and Le Mors aux Dents together, about 40 people.
Welcome coffee, visits of the tracks where they could see the horses work, then presentation of their horses…and walk in the park.
Champagne was a must to celebrate wins and places of our horses and we all met in front of the house for a picnic.
Around 3pm we left to go racing to Craon.
This year, a team of journalists of Equidia (Catherine Ford and Thibault Marlin) followed us all morning. It was a day to remember as many things were planned, but the cherry on the cake was the “unplanned”!!
At Lion d’Angers on August 30th, FARAFRA won Prix Yann Poirier (a race for 3 year-olds AQPS, non-thoroughbred over a mile and a half) with a lot of class. Ridden by Pierre Charles Boudot, she had a good position all around and at the entrance of the straight, she accelerated and on one managed to catch her:
This very good filly is by Martaline out of Qena. We were particularly pleased with this result because it was also the win of a group of friends. She ran the Prix Yann Poirier (one of our good friends who left us 4 years ago and we wanted to win this race), she was bred by the Roulois family and she runs under the colors of Comte A. Maggiar.
TINARILOU finished 5th at Lion d’Angers on August 30th ridden by Pierre Charles Boudot, in a handicap over 2000m (10 furlongs). She has not lost our esteem because the race didn’t go as we wanted.
Out of the stalls, she actually threw herself to the right, touched the stall… and TINARILOU found herself at the back of the field. We know she prefers to be close to the lead…but nevertheless she finished well.
Let’s see her next time out!
A race to forget…
Today, FANTASTIC BERE finished unplaced at Clairefontaine in a flat race over 1900m (a mile and 1 ½ furlong). His jockey, Cristian Demuro, gave us the following explanation, he had not “much petrol in the tank” and the ground was much softer...”
Conclusion: FANTASTIC will have holidays, he has been on the go since the beginning of the year and always very courageous.
…AMARA ! Yes, this courageous little filly who was always in the frame, had not won yet. But it is now done! At Vertou on August 26th in a hurdle race for 4 year-old maiden horses over 3700m (2 miles and 2 ½ furlongs).
She honoured her owners the syndicate Le Pied A L’Etrier and her supporters of the syndicate Le Mors Aux Dents because she won well and more easily than the result showed.
Vincent Bernard, her jockey told us that in the far straight she jumped everything to the left and that was why he found it hard to make her accelerate.
And of course, after this pleasant win, we all had a glass of champagne!!
….of DUTCH DOCTOR at Pornichet on August 24th ridden by Adrien Fouassier. He was 4th in a very close finish…he had not the best race…was on the outside without any cover and in the last straight, he weakened to finish.
It was some sort of come back and our DUTCH DOCTOR will perform a good second part of the year.
Yesterday in the “quinté” (big handicap) at Deauville, DE BON ALOI finished unplaced and it was an inaccurate race which didn’t reflect the qualities of the horse…the jockey didn’t give him a good ride!
A race to forget…
Second time out, FLEUR DE L’AIR opened her record at Moulins on August 23rd ridden by Pierre Charles Boudot in Prix d’Auteuil, a flat race for AQPS (non-thoroughbred) fillies over 2500m (a mile and 4 ½ furlongs). She started in 3rd position and kept that place all around. Pierre Charles took her out at a furlong from home and she finished well and won by a length.
This filly is incredible because in the morning she always looks asleep and only does the very minimum… and in the afternoon she becomes a “race filly”… Good for her because sometimes it is the opposite…morning glories who win all their gallops but do the very minimum when racing.
…of BEJCA and her foal ITIALENE by Doctor Dino…to Lion d’Angers for the competition of conformation and paces of AQPS (non-thoroughbred) horses organized by the association of AQPS horses of the west of France. It was a presentation of mares and foals by the breeders in the west of France.
Numerous rewards (free nominations, bags of food, champagne, etc…) are given to the best ones of each category. For the breeders it is also the opportunity to present their production to trainers and French and foreign agents… and usually business follows and numerous sales take place.
BEJCA and her foal were presented by Grégoire and Caroline de Roincé who look after our breeding operation in Normandy.
Everyone was satisfied after the second place of our DOROGYNKA at Châteaubriant in Prix Useful over 2600m (a mile and 5 furlongs).
She was patiently ridden by Soufiane Saadi and managed to get out at mid straight and finished very fast… she was beaten by a better one!!
But let’s be patient, we’ll manage to win, with her….when??
YES ! Because we were used to win with ELAFONISSI… and on August 20th at Châteaubriant, she was “only” 4th in a hurdle race for 4 year-olds over 3400m (2 miles and 1 furlong)
What happened? Has the “machine” gone wrong? Absolutely not!
No, Miss ELAFONISSI was in season and as her jockey Clément Lefebvre told us “she was lifeless and without energy”… which is not herself!!
Therefore, no worry, it was only temporary…
…the colors of Jean-Philippe Vinet and first win over jumps for the filly EN TEMPS VOULU in a chase over 4100m (2 miles and 4 ½ furlongs). At Craon on August 19th, EN TEMPS VOULU and her jockey Stéphane Paillard didn’t worry to choose tactics… forward and we go on…
The filly hesitated a bit over two obstacles but after that she performed a smooth race. Stéphane accelerated at the end of the bend and none of his competitors managed to join him. She won by 5 lengths.
Many people did enjoy this win: her co-owners Jean-Philippe Vinet, Luc Josse and myself (Christine), her breeder Françoise Gondouin and the whole family who are always pleased to follow the results of the horses…
Champagne, my partners!
EVORA did a comeback at Lion d’Angers on August 16th in a flat race over 3000m (a mile and 7 furlongs).
Ridden by Adrien Fouassier, she ran well. In a good position all around, she pulled a bit and made useless efforts… She performed a nice straight but she needed the race… EVORA finished good 4th.
And as her owner Paul Terpereau would say: “Looking forward to the next race!”
LIVIA ROYALE ran for the second time over hurdles and finished 3rd at Rochefort sur Loire.
She started in the middle of the field, jumped particularly well and finished well. Vincent Bernard her jockey rode her with a lot of confidence. She is a filly for the future because she is still unexperienced. She is by Maresca Sorrento and Royal Landy… was bred by David Lumet.
You should have seen the joy of her young owner François Audoin who had just bought her… he said it was very stressful but also fantastic to see you horse run!!
…a pleasure to see our “President” TZAR’S DANCER run… He ran a chase at Dieppe and finished 3rd. Always well placed, he jumped well and finished well and as Thomas Beaurain said “he is getting older and has less speed to finish… but it is always a pleasure to ride him.”
…for FATINES in the same race as her stable pal Fransleen.
Ridden by Soufiane Saadi, she took the lead, it was not planned but she jumped out of her stall so quickly that the jockey didn’t want to fight with her. She was very professional in her part of “pacemaker”. When entering the straight, she was still in the lead… and only weakened late to finish 4th.
Every year we discover good horses in this race.
All the horses were unraced and we can say it was a good lot of 3 year-olds… because there was rhythm in the race and the horses finished fast.
FATINES is by Spirit One out of Tadjike, she belongs to Douglas Mc Millan and was bred by Haras de Maulepaire.
On August 9th at Vichy, DIVINE BERE did a come back after a year and a half off following a health problem.
Ridden by Soufiane Saadi, she started in 5th, 6th position…he started to ask her after the road crossing… DIVINE did her best but at a furlong from home she asked for a breather and finished courageous 4th.
After such a long time off, she needed this race and the jockey told us he had a good feeling of her.
It is quite certain she will perform well again this year.
4 months ago SELFIE resumed training and competition after a year off… and her two come back races were not really satisfactory.
At Sables d’Olonne she was 4th in an E race over 1950m (9 ¾ furlongs) ridden by Soufiane Saadi. Well placed all around and more relaxed, she was a bit lost when they accelerated. But she pulled herself together and performed a nice finishing straight.
It is auspicious for her next races and her jockey liked her.
Therefore my SELFIE everything depends on you now!!
…condemn her for the 5th place because ELLA CONTI is worth more than this result showed…
In a race for 4 and 5 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred), Prix Paul Collins over 2700m (13 ½ furlongs), our beautiful filly did not perform the race that was expected.
Actually our jockey Adrien Fouassier didn’t really ride his best race!! He himself recognized that he had lost the race…
We have to understand that jockeys are not robots and when sometimes it doesn’t go the way we wanted…we have to excuse them.
We still trust both …ELLA CONTI…..and Adrien Fouassier.
On August 2nd at Vichy, EMINGWELLE ran her second race over jumps… When she ran for the first time over jumps she was 5th at Sables d’Olonne, a race-course which didn’t suit her. She is a very big mover and she did prefer the course of Vichy.
She took the lead, jumped everything well… and after the last hurdle, Thomas Beaurain launched the “machine” and she won by far…
Next objective: Auteuil.
On July 29th at Royan, EN TEMPS VOULU finished 2nd in a hurdle race for 4 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) over 3500m (2 miles and 1½ furlong) ridden by Wilfried Lajon.
New tactics: she took the lead and was quiet and easy all around. At the last hurdle we thought we were beaten but she courageously started again to loose the win by little.
Little by little EN TEMPS VOULU lays out her way…
On July 27th at Sables d’Olonne, FAN OF SEA ran first time out… and won easily, ridden by Arnaud Bourgeais. Considering what he showed us in the morning, we knew he was something special and thought we might win first time out.
At the entrance of the finishing straight, Gabriel’s ( very estimated ) horse attacked first, Arnaud launched FAN OF SEA and he took the advantage without even using his stick.…
FAN OF SEA comes from our family (Gondouin, Leenders) breeding operation, he is by Shamalgan out of Kusea (Chriseti’s sister) and his brother is DELIRANT, winner of the GR 1 Prix Jacques de Vienne.
On July 26th at Maisons-Laffitte, FANTASTIC BERE ran for the first time over 7 furlongs straight… and he finished unplaced. He didn’t like it!... according to his jockey Cristian Demuro, FANTASTIC BERE didn’t find his marks and was lost…Therefore we won’t run him again on a straight line.
…a win Miss DOROGYNKA…but it was not the case yet in Prix Feneu at Maisons-Laffitte on July 24th, a race for 4 and 5 year-olds AQPS (non-thoroughbred) over 3000m ( a mile and 7 furlongs).
She ran well as usual finishing a good 4th, ridden by Adrien Fouassier. She still lacks a turn of foot! But we still hope she will eventually win!
On July 24th at Lion d’Angers, FLEUR DE L’AIR ran first time out in Prix de l’Aubinière, a flat race for 3 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) over a mile and a half.
Ridden by Adrien Fouassier, she started in 3rd, 4th position and at the entrance of the finishing straight, she found an opening and performed a very nice finish.
This lovely filly has a nice future. Her pedigree: she is by Buck’s Boum out of Fille de L’Air…She was bred in Nièvre by SCEA Château de Favray and Jean-François Bedu.
…her owners so happy!
On July 24th at Lion d’Angers, AMARA was 2nd in a chase for 4 year-old horses ridden by Wilfried Lajon. As usual, she did her best, jumped well and finished well.
It is a pleasure for us to see her run and she deserves to win…which should happen soon!!
At the July sales at Deauville, we bought SI SIBYLLINE for Ecurie Five which has just been created.
The filly finished 3rd ridden by Adrien Fouassier. In a race for 3 year-old horses over 7 furlongs, she started 7th, 8th position and little by little gained ground along the rail.
Blocked in at the entrance of the straight, she found it hard to get out…but when she did, SI SIBYLLINE finished very fast… and a few yards further she would have won…
We’ll enjoy ourselves with this filly!!
Ecurie Five was created 2 months ago by 5 friends who felt like having race-horses together and share this adventure.
The filly SI SIBYLLINE had a bit of pressure as she had to honor the new colors blue and white… and in the finishing straight you can imagine the shouting of the supporters!! It was fantastic…
It is also for this sort of thing that we like racing! Passion, joy and friendship…
…you can do them in a complicated way! I explain… DOUX DINGUE is a good horse, always in the frame both on the flat and over jumps.
Yesterday he was 5th at Lion d’Angers in a chase for 5 year-olds over 4000m (2 miles and 4 furlongs), ridden by Wilfried Lajon. He ran well, but this “gentleman” jumped 1 meter over the obstacles and therefore lost time and made too much effort which he paid for at the finish.
And in the last bend DOUX DINGUE looked “knackered”…. But no, he was not … he finished very fast and once again beaten by little!!
Therefore there are still some adjustments to do…but he is worth it.
…his records in his area, at Vichy on July 20th…he was born in Saône et Loire that is close!
Since the beginning of his young career, IL DECOIFFE has always been in the frame, and yesterday in Prix Equidia, a flat race for 3 year-olds over 2000m (10 furlongs), he won well.
His jockey Théo Bachelot took the initiative to take the lead because the horse was more relaxed that way… Good for him, IL DECOIFFE started accelerating at two furlongs from home and no other horse managed to catch him.
Good ride, good horse!
…for LES COIFFEURS (the hairdressers), a group of friends owning IL DECOIFFE, because it was the first win of their horse… in their area… and for some of them it’s the first horse they ever had.
The story started thanks to Fanny Cyprès who saw this colt at his breeder‘s and felt like buying him. She talked to her mother Andrée Cyprès about it and then to Mother Leenders, both agreed to take a share…other friends followed… and that was the start!!
Isn’t life enjoyable!!!
On July 18th, ELLA CONTI ran Prix de l’Union des AQPS du Centre Est, ridden by Grégory Benoist, she finished 6th. It was a Gr III run over a mile and a half. It was a strange race with a lot of pace and ELLA started 3rd and kept this position for most of the race but could not sustain a furlong from home.
Debriefing of the race: ELLA CONTI ran well but she is still tender and lacks experience.
She is a good filly and we keep trusting her.
…members of the syndicate Le Mors Aux Dents: the Marin and the Bizeul travelled to Vichy to go and see their filly ELLA CONTI.
They were able to meet her breeder Patrick Joubert who was thrilled to see his filly again.
…it’s not that difficult to do one’s job well! Isn’t it DE BON ALOI !
Mr. DE BON ALOI ran the « quinté » (big handicap) of Vichy on July 16th ridden by Grégory Benoist. He finished good second.
He started in second position and stayed there all around, going very easy.
Grégory told us:” I had him relaxed and good and when I asked him to go forward to finish, he did it !”
If he could show such a good will every time he runs, it would be a dream!
But looking back at the performance, we realize that the fact of starting close to the lead and be the boss of the field did please him because DE BON ALOI is a chief!!
…better than what the result showed: TINARILOU was 5th in Prix Mauboussin, a flat race for 4 year-olds over 1800m (a mile and a furlong).
Ridden by Maryline Eon, she started in 4th, 5th position and got short of speed when they accelerated… but what we liked was that TINARILOU fought well and missed the 3rd and 4th places by little. Because TINARILOU has not always been very courageous in the finish. Therefore she had a good mark this time.
On July 14th at Dieppe, ELAFONISSI ran a hurdle race for 4 year-olds over 3400m (2 miles and 1 furlong). Ridden by Simon Evin (her faithful partner Hugo Lucas has a shoulder injury), she was always in 2nd, 3rd position.
It was a pleasure to watch her because she jumped remarkably well and finished 2nd.
This filly doesn’t stop improving and since she discovered jumping, she doesn’t stop surprising us.
“Yesterday at Lion d’Angers, I ran in Prix J. Trottier, a chase over 4000m (2 miles and 4 furlongs). I was going so well… my jockey Wilfrid Lajon, and I enjoyed ourselves in the first part of the race…jumping easily and having a smooth race…unfortunately, one of my opponents fell…and the stewards stopped the race!!
Therefore, when going back to the box, I decided to have my nails done…” AMARA
See you soon
…for EN TEMPS VOULU ridden by Hugo Lucas in Prix Crédit Mutuel over 3900m (2 miles and 3 ½ furlongs).
EN TEMPS VOULU, the only 4 year-old of this small field, kept her part well finishing 3rd.
This good jumper performed her job particularly well without making any mistake… but she was beaten on the flat by two extraterrestrial horses trained at Royan !! She should win soon!
…win for ELLA CONTI at Corlay on July 1st. Ridden by Adrien Fouassier, she won as she wanted… well over the company.
As Adrien told us: ”she went easy all around, she is a good recruit.”
ELLA CONTI is a 4 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) by Khalkevi out of Unica Conti and she was bred by Patrick Joubert in Allier.
I want to congratulate Pierre Klimenko for the extraordinary photograph he took in the parade ring. He pressed the button just at the right time. Well done!
…don’t count!!” The members of the syndicate Le Mors aux Dents didn’t hesitate to go and see their two horses ELLA CONTI and DOROGYNKA run at Corlay…in spite of the storm…
Good for them: ELLA won and DOROGYNKA was 2nd…..It was worth to get wet!!
And we have to mention that it was the first win of this syndicate on the flat, they won with DEAUSEILLE at Argentan but that was over hurdles.
On Sunday, July 1st at Saint-Cloud, PALMERINO finished 5th in the “quinté” Prix d’Auxerre, a race for older horses over a mile and a half (red and yellow colors on the photograph).
Ridden by Eddy Hardouin, he had a very good race, you could even say “too good a race”! At mid finishing straight, you thought he would win but he “stopped”.
After the race when debriefing, you could think of different explanations: he lacked a race, the firm ground, etc…. Nevertheless PALMERINO was super and his next entries will be at Deauville.
On July 1st DOROGYNKA missed the win and finished 2nd ridden by Maryline Eon. She took a good start and was in a good position all around. In the far straight, Maryline decided to toughen the race and performed a nice finishing straight. We thought she would make it, but unfortunately we were beaten on the post!!
Damned… we could have had two winners with the two runners of the syndicate Le Mors aux Dents !!
Anyway all the partners who were there were excited…it’s also the reason why we like racing…this rise of adrenalin!!!
EXETERA did a come back at Sables d’Olonne in Prix Altesse V, a good race for 4 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred).
Ridden by Adrien Fouassier, she started at the back of the field, came closer in the far straight and finished very well.
She is a good filly to follow in her next entries.
At Erbray on June 24th, in a hurdle race for 4 year-olds, our ELAFONISSI won with a lot of class ridden by Hugo Lucas.
The meter is now unblocked!! It was a bit difficult with her because in the morning she doesn’t show anything but at the races ELAFONISSI really shows her best. Good for her owner, Douglas McMillan, because he was patient with her.
We are now going up the grades nice and quiet with her.
AMARA finished 2nd at Jallais on June 24th ridden by Clément Lefebvre.
As usual she took a good start, jumped very well and when the race was launched in the far straight, AMARA followed.
But the Macaire on duty had gone, he was flying and she couldn’t catch him!
And as Jean-Paul (one of her owners) said: “Well done little girl”!
On June 23rd at Ascot, RENNETI was good second in the Queen Alexandra Stakes, a race over 4300m (2 miles and 5 ½ furlongs).
His trainer Willie Mullins manages his career so well running him both on the flat and over jumps. RENNETI won a Group 2 on the flat at Naas (Ireland) and a group 3 over hurdles at Fairyhouse (Ireland).
We are very proud of the career of this horse that we sold at Deauville when he was 3.
The family is still quite alive because we kept his aunt Caprice Flore, a sister of his dam Caprice Meill. Caprice Flore has two foals: OR GRIS, a two-year old by Gris de Gris and a yearling DOCDEN by Doctor Dino.
All hopes are possible!!
At Sables d’Olonne on June 19th, DE BON ALOI finished 4th in Prix du Pays des Dames, a flat race over 2700m (a mile and 5 ½ furlongs), ridden by Adrien Fouassier.
He took a good start and was well placed all around, at the entrance of the bend his jockey started asking him to go forward…. And Monsieur DE BON ALOI “stopped dead”!! Adrien told us: “I suddenly had nothing in my hands” then a few strides further, he started again and finished well.
It is always frustrating because he is a good horse who has nothing to prove but when he doesn’t want it…
EXETERA did a come back at Sables d’Olonne in Prix Altesse V, a good race for 4 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred).
Ridden by Adrien Fouassier, she started at the back of the field, came closer in the far straight and finished very well.
She is a good filly to follow in her next entries.
…for DOUX DINGUE who finished 3rd at Sables d’Olonne on June 19th ridden by Hugo Lucas.
In a hurdle race for 5 year-olds and upwards over 4200m (2 miles and 5 furlongs)…DOUX DINGUE was always well placed but he was short of speed when they launched the race. When he accelerated, he performed a good finishing straight.
He is always in the frame but we now would like you to win DOUX DINGUE!!
…for EMINGWELLE at Sables d’Olonne on June 19th. She finished 5th in Prix de la Bassetière, a race for 4 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred).
Ridden by Hugo Lucas, she was always well placed but lacked speed to finish.
We have a lot of hopes with her because this tall filly (more than 1,70m which is nearly 17 hands) is not yet mature. She has a nice future chasing.
…during the picnic on Prix de Diane day… We met friends, breeders, owners and Arnaud Poirier from France Sire who took South Koreans to Chantilly …and they did appreciate the champagne!
On June 17th at Niort, DERIGANOU finished 3rd in a hurdle race over 3800m (2 miles and 3 furlongs). Ridden by Hugo Lucas, he started at the back of the field. We wanted him to be re-assured as last time he fell stupidly… and since he was afraid.
Over the first obstacles DERIGANOU jumped big, and then little by little he got back in the rhythm of the race, jumped better and finished well.
It seems OK for him now!!
EN TEMPS VOULU ran again over hurdles at Niort on June 17th and finished 5th ridden by Hugo Lucas.
It was frustrating because she jumped perfectly all around but when the others accelerated, she went on in her own pace.
She comes from a family of big jumpers (Gondleen, L’Artiste Français, Chriseti) and therefore EN TEMPS VOULU will follow the others and will be better chasing.
…the fall at Lion d’ Angers with DEBUT DE PRINTEMPS in Prix Jasmin II… a chase over 4100m (2 miles and 4 ½ furlongs).
Ridden by Hugo Lucas, DEBUT DE PRINTEMPS started at the back of the filed as usual. He came closer in the far straight with a lot of resources, unfortunately at the obstacle in the bend, two horses fell in front of him…he was lucky to manage to avoid them but he was nevertheless stopped.
DEBUT DE PRINTEMPS started again and managed to finish 4th… Hugo told us: “What a pity, I had enough in my hands to be second!”
A beautiful photograph taken by the photographer Zuzanna Lupa at Decize in Nièvre during the show Sprinter Sacrée : a show presenting horses with a jumping potential.
Grégoire was presenting a mare and her “temperamental foal” belonging to Family Couteaudier.
This foal has a future… The water at Auteuil will be easy for him!!
On June 10th at Limoges, we had entered two horses: DOROGYNKA and TINARILOU. The first one finished 4th in Prix de Nexon, a race for 4 and 5 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) over a mile and a half. She was ridden by Emmanuel Etienne. DOROGYNKA did what she could because she doesn’t like heavy going… but in these circumstances, she was courageous…we are looking forward to sunny days!
TINARILOU ran well, beaten by good old servants who know their job by heart and who have still some quality. She was ridden by Maëlle Le Levreur. And as far as she was concerned, she was not impeded by the heavy ground because at 4 she is now more mature and stronger.
Marie-France and Didier (respectively share-holder in the syndicate Le Pied A L’Etrier and the syndicate Mors Aux Dents) went to support their horses at Limoges (a two days’ trip) and met Mr. Lacourie, the breeder of DOROGYNKA.
When you are that passionate, kilometers are unimportant!! We thank them…
On June 5th at Nantes, BONANIVERSERE PAPA finished 3rd in Grand Prix Synergie ridden by Hugo Lucas. He started at the back of the field, at the last hurdle he was in second position with according to his jockey, resources to win… Unfortunately 4 steps after the obstacle, Hugo felt that there was something wrong… and nevertheless he finished courageously.
As a result: the horse has a tendon and will be off for a year!! It’s a pity because he is a good horse but quite fragile.
BONANIVERSERE PAPA is going to go to the Normandy he likes for a rest.
Yesterday on June 4th at Auteuil, we had two runners: ACCENTUS in Prix Jean Victor (quinté, big handicap) and DONASLAND in Prix Ginetta II, a race for 4 and 5 year old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) fillies and mares. Nothing turned up as planned! ACCENTUS who was the favorite was at his best…Unfortunately, he started at the back of the field (God knows why??)…when we know that the horse has always to be well placed (4th or 5th) because at the back he loses his spirits and jumps badly… and this was what happened.
As to DONALSLAND ridden by Thomas Beaurain, she doesn’t like Auteuil and therefore she will go back to provincial racing…it is frustrating because in the morning she flies…
Who said that training horses was an easy job???
On June 3rd at Senonnes Pouancé, DOUX DINGUE finished 4th ridden by Hugo Lucas.
In a hurdle race over 3800m (2 miles and 3 furlongs), he took a good start in 5th, 6th position and at the last hurdle of the far straight, a horse fell in his legs…and it was a miracle he didn’t fall himself but DOUX DINGUE was stopped dead…the race was launched and it was too late to come back!
His owner Paul Terpereau who is always optimistic said: “Don’t worry, he will do better next time!!”
At Saint-Cloud on May 28th, FANTASTIC BERE was 5th in Prix du Haras de la Celle Saint-Cloud, a flat race for 3 year-olds over a mile. Ridden by P.C. Boudot, he took a good start but Pierre-Charles took him back too much instead of letting him gallop in a good position… Therefore he found himself too far at the entrance of the finishing straight!
…to be small and light!!
Actually AMARA finished 4th at Lignières on May 27th in a chase over 4300m (2 miles and 5 ½ furlongs), ridden by Wilfried Lajon..
As usual she ran very well but in the finishing straight, the “mountain” of weight (70 kg) did handicap her! And, as Jean-Paul Transon (one of the members of the syndicate Le Pied A L’Etrier who loves AMARA) said: “Well done my little girl!”
And he was right, because she is a very courageous little filly.
GRAINE D’ARGENT finished 4th at Moulins on May 27th in Prix Ucello II, ridden by Wilfried Lajon.
She is a good jumper but the rhythm of the race didn’t suit her…as it started quite slowly and finished in a sprint which was not good for us as GRAINE D’ARGENT is a one-paced filly.
We’ll have to think of next entries: chase? Hurdles?
On May 22nd at Lion d’Angers, DEBUT DE PRINTEMPS finished 2nd in Prix Chaudenay: a chase over 4000m (2 miles and 4 furlongs). He performed a nice race, but out of the last bend, being a big mover, he turned far outside and lost many lengths.
His jockey, Hugo Lucas told us: ”It was a pity, because it cost us the first place.”
As DEBUT DE PRINTEMPS doesn’t stop improving, we know he is soon going to win …
….for RADIOLOGUE at Auteuil on May 20th. He finished 2nd ridden by Hugo Lucas.
In Prix Jackal, a chase over 3900m (2 miles and 3 ½ furlongs) RADIOLOGUE performed a good race. He jumped everything well, arrived in the lead in front of the last hurdle and finished well. But, he is still without a turn of foot, we can’t say that he goes slower to finish but he keeps going in the same pace.
He is a horse we adore, because on top of being a good recruit, he is so lovely!
…over hurdles at Saint-Malo on May 20th in Prix de Maurepas over 3900m (2 miles and 3 ½ furlongs). EN TEMPS VOULU finished 5th ridden by Hugo Lucas.
She took a good start, jumped well but when they accelerated and sprinted to finish, she kept going on at her own pace…
This good jumper needs to get tougher and more mature.
On May 14th at Saint-Cloud, before the start of the “quinté” (big handicap), the two partners Marie-Cécile de Saint Seine and Paul Terpereau adjusted their binoculars … and had the pleasure to see their horse PALMERINO win!!
At the end of the afternoon, we met at Haras de Maulepaire (breeder of the horse) with Pierric Rouxel, the manager, to celebrate the win with a good bottle of champagne!
…for FANTASTIC BERE who took part in a “quinté” (big handicap) for the first time. It was Prix des Dimanches au Galop, a handicap over a mile. He finished 6th.
He might have had a better place but when they accelerated in the finishing straight, he was impeded and it stopped him! As his jockey Christian Demuro told us: “This impediment cost me 2 or 3 places as I had enough resources to finish better.”
It is encouraging for the future and we look forward to his next time out!!
….for DONASLAND on May 6th at Le Pin Au Haras where she finished 2nd in a chase for 4 and 5 year-old horses over 3700m (2 miles and 2 ½ furlongs).
Ridden by Wilfried Lajon, she started at the back of the field, jumped well and took the lead in the far straight but she gave up after the last hurdle.
Wilfried told us ”I was going easy all around, she was very pleasant but as she has no change of pace, she could not accelerate after the last hurdle.”
For her next race, we’ll think of new tactics, as she definitely has the ability to win this type of race.
EMINGWELLE : a superb 4 year-old AQPS fillyby Network out of Maldives at the race-course of Le Pin au Haras on May 6th.
This filly was born to jump but we chose to run her first time out of on the flat over two miles to put her forward preparation. Ridden by Ronan Thomas, she started at the back of the field and came closer at the entrance of the straight and she finished 4th.
According to her jockey, she is late , interesting filly who is already very professional.
….of the new race-course of Longchamp by some members of the syndicate Le Pied A L’Etrier.
On the way back, they were thrilled with their day and whatever people say, this race-course is incredible…
Cherry on the cake: Laurent Bruneteau, a racing journalist, interviewed Jean Philippe Vinet and Marie-France Bizeul who were happy to talk about their syndicate and their pleasure to see their horse FANTASTIC BERE run at Longchamp in a “quinté” (big handicap).
DUTCH DOCTOR won at Argentan on April 30th Prix d’Ecouché, a flat race for 4 year-olds and over on 2100m (a mile and 2 ½ furlongs).
Pierre Charles Boudot knew the horse and we told him “Do as you like but he starts to put us asleep…therefore see what you can do!”
He started in 3rd position, kept his place all around… and at the entrance of the straight, a click of the tongue was enough for DUTCH DOCTOR to make short work of his competitors.
You see DUTCH how easy it is when you want it!!
On April 29th at Moulins, we had 3 runners. The three of them were in the frame. The ground was very heavy.
DOUX DINGUE finished 4th in a chase over 4400m (2 miles and 6 furlongs) ridden by Wilfrid Denuault. We were a bit disappointed as he is a horse we like and obviously during the race he was short of speed. Maybe a day off!
DEAUSEILLE finished 2nd in a chase over 3600m (2 miles and 2 furlongs) ridden by Wilfrid Denuault. She ran very well but was beaten by the weight (72 kg).
KAPVILLE, our dear KAPVILLE was 4th in a cross-country race over 4500m (2 miles and 6 ½ furlongs) ridden by Wilfrid Denuault. He ran well…He has not the same level as before but little by little he comes back to form…
In the “quinté” (big handicap) of Compiègne on April 23rd, we had DE BON ALOI ridden by Grégory Benoist and PALMERINO ridden by Christian Demuro. They finished 6th and 7th.
DE BON ALOI only did what he pleased and didn’t want to employ himself. And in that case he puts his head aside and says “I don’t want it”.
As to PALMERINO, he was supposed to find his marks over a mile and a half (he lad run on a longer distance last time), he finished well and we know he will soon resume winning.
…her sex… this is the expression used for a filly in season!
Yesterday at Meslay du Maine we were disappointed by AMARA’s 5th place and wondered why she performed an average race.
She didn’t take a real part in the race and her place in this chase (3500m 2 miles and 1 ½ furlong) was not what it should have been. Her jockey Wilfried Lajon confirmed that it was a day off!!
We’ll see next time out.
In Prix des Rairies, a flat race over 2300m (a mile and 3 ½ furlongs) on April 22nd at Durtal, FREQUENCE MAG finished 3rd, ridden by Adrien Fouassier.
She started well along the rail and had a good race. But unfortunately there was no pace which didn’t help the filly. The race finished with a sprint and the photograph was not in our favour. FREQUENCE MAG is a good filly and we go on trusting her.
There is a race which is very expected by trainers and owners, it is Prix du Président de la République at Auteuil… It took place on April 22nd and we had ACCENTUS who had just won Prix Lutteur III, which is the prep for the big one. He finished 2nd, beaten by a nose, the shortest nose you have ever seen in racing in France!!
It was a very fast (they beat the record) and magnificent race with good competitors. And from the last bend, you could see who would be in the frame.
Ridden by Kilian Dubourg, ACCENTUS and the winner jumped the last hurdle together and fought to the post… Unfortunately we were second. But we are very proud of ACCENTUS who was off several times because of injuries and he came back stronger than ever. He will have a short holiday and we’ll aim for the good races in the autumn.
….SET DANCER and Wilfrid Denuault on April 21st at Nantes. Wilfrid had a serious accident last winter at Pau and he resumed competition when riding SET DANCER. They finished 3rd. Good race, he jumped well and finished well and as Wilfrid told us:” SET and I asked for a breather at the same time…before the finishing straight!!!”
That can’t be invented!!
…what this dear CITY PRETENDER was able to do because we knew his potential but he has been very irregular!
And at Angers on April 20th, he won Prix de la Forêt de Chandelais with authority. It was a chase over 3800m (2 miles and 3 furlongs) and he was ridden with a lot of confidence by Wilfried Lajon.
“Dear City, it was not that difficult to win!” CITY PRETENDER has a lot to live up to as he is brother to KAPVILLE.
At Auteuil on April 18th, ARISTO DES MOTTES finished 2nd ridden by Kilian Dubourg. In Prix Viel Picard, a hurdle race over 3900m ( 2 miles and 3 ½ furlongs ) ARISTO was very keen and Kilian chose to go in the lead. Good for him because the horse relaxed and the race was smooth. In the last bend he was impeded by a loose horse that cost him the win!!
Yes, on the photograph you think he is the winner but he is second beaten by very little…We are all thrilled with the race of ARISTO DES MOTTES.
…for ECU DES FOSSES at Moulins on April 16th. He finished 2nd ridden by Hugo Lucas.
In a hurdle race over 3600m (2 miles and 2 furlongs), he started in 4th, 5th position, jumped well and came closer in the far straight. ECU jumped the last hurdle together with the winner but he just weakened a little bit to finish.
Conclusion: he is a horse we have esteem for and little by little he will mature and get tougher.
….but STARDATE courageously finished 3rd at Saint-Malo on April 15th, ridden by Maëlle Le Levreur. It was a flat race for amateur riders over 1800m (a mile and a furlong).
She ran well, was well ridden but beaten by better horses!
….On April 15th at Saint-Malo, she finished 4th ridden by Hugo Lucas.
It was ELAFONISI’s second hurdle race and actually she did well. She jumped well but as she is generous, she did a bit too much and paid for it at the finish… and on heavy ground it didn’t help.
As a conclusion, she is a good filly who is improving but she will be better chasing on better ground !
...... TINARILOU at Saint-Malo on April 15th. She finished 2nd ridden by Maëlle Le Levreur. It was a flat race over 1800m (a mile and 1 furlong) for amateur riders. Our lady rider started in 2nd, 3rd position. The filly was quite keen but managed to relax after 500m (2 ½ furlongs), then out of the last bend she accelerated well and finished at a length and a half from the winner. The members of the syndicate Le Pied A L’Etrier were fully satisfied with their lovely grey filly and her lady rider.
For information, TINARILOU is by Tin Horse out of Good Marylou and was bred by Geneviève Neveux at Haras du Lieu Fergant in Normandy.
RADIOLOGUE finished 4th at Auteuil on April 12th, ridden by Hugo Lucas.
In Prix Necot: a hurdle race over 3900m (2 miles and 3 ½ furlongs), RADIOLOGUE performed a nice race without any mistake but he would have preferred a heavier going. He is an extremely courageous and attractive horse and we love him! We don’t worry for him, he will pursue his career tenaciously!
In Prix de Montigny, the Quinté which took place at Deauville on April 9th, PALMERINO finished 7th. From the start, Pierre-Charles Boudot placed him at the back of the field because the horse has a tendency to be too keen! At the entrance of the straight, Pierre Charles chose to take him to the outside. He had to slalom in between other horses but nevertheless performed a nice finishing straight. His jockey told us that, should he have stayed along the rail, he might have been 3rd or 4th !
A horse to follow in his next races.
DOUX DINGUE finished 4th in a chase on March 8th at Argentan, ridden by Wilfried Lajon. We were disappointed as he is a good horse and in this race he was not serious: not concentrated? Too fast a course? Too small obstacles? Not enough pace?
We’ll try and solve the problems and we’ll see next time out. But we know he is better than what he showed at Argentan!!
….the syndicate Ecurie Le Mors Aux Dents with the mare DEAUSEILLE ridden by Hugo Lucas in a chase over 4200m. She performed a very nice race: started in the lead in a race without any pace, jumped particularly well and then at the beginning of the last bend, her jockey chose to accelerate and she could not be caught. The group of owners were particularly happy to be present for this win…
…and cherry on the cake, on the same day at Argentan, the second horse of the syndicate Ecurie Le Mors Aux Dents, DOROGYNKA ran over hurdles for the first time and finished 3rd, also ridden by Hugo Lucas.
….CALINZANA on April 8th at Argentan in a hurdle race over 3600m (2 miles and 2 furlongs), ridden by Hugo Lucas.
She is a filly who has a tendency to be keen, therefore we decided she would start at the back of the field. Not always at ease in the bends, she jumped very well and she started to come closer in the far straight. CALINZANA was in the lead to jump the last hurdle and would not be beaten. We were all very satisfied to see this filly we like to win.
DOREMIFA DE CLISOU finished 3rd at Angoulême on March 8th ridden by William Smith.
In a race for 4 and 5 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) over 2600m (a mile and 5 furlongs), DOREMIFA started at the back of the field and he seemed relax all around. At the entrance of the long finishing straight, the jockey took him out and started coming closer and finished well. But William told us: “It is a pity, I didn’t manage to use the horse at his best, otherwise I would have won.”
To see again!
FREQUENCE MAG by Gris de Gris out of Gravure Célèbre did something yesterday at Durtal in a maiden race for 3 year-olds over 2000m (a mile and 2 furlongs).
She finished 2nd ridden by Adrien Fouassier. She started in the middle of the field, was severely impeded in the first bend and consequently found herself at the back of the field. Adrien kept her quiet and started to come closer at the end of the last bend. And then when she was well balanced, FREQUENCE MAG finished very fast.
Satisfying first time out because the company was good and we’ll probably see most of these horses at a good level in the future.
FREQUENCE MAG belongs to Comte A. A. Maggiar who is also her breeder.
…for BONANIVERSERE PAPA on April 2nd at Durtal, ridden by Hugo Lucas… He easily won Prix Jean de la Sayette, a chase over 4000m (2 miles and 4 furlongs).
Why “at last”?
Because this 7 year-old horse is very fragile and has had health problems regularly…He has only run 8 times since the beginning of his career! Therefore, it was a real pleasure to see him win and thus our patience was rewarded.
…our breeding operation this year.
A colt foal by ON EST BIEN out of QURISTINE… He is a nice foal, well alive and he has a good head. We loved his dam when she was racing. She has a 3 year-old colt Fransleen by No Risk At All and a yearling filly Hip Hip Hourra by Saddler Maker.
….cool with DE BON ALOI!
Actually at Chantilly on March 31st when he finished 6th in Prix de Percy, the Quinté (big handicap), we knew quite well that he had the quality to have a better place.
When Grégory Benoist got off, he said “your horse is a bit strange…in the last bend I had a lot in my hands…when I asked him to go forward, he went slower and when I pretended not to ask him anything, he accelerated… but I liked him in the finishing straight!!” We have not an easy job!! But if we trained motor bikes, it would be so more boring…
…ARISTO DES MOTTES at Nantes on March 29th. He finished 4th ridden by Alain de Chitray.
He started quietly at the back of the field, performed a very smooth race without making any effort…then ARISTO came closer at the entrance of the bend and finished well. The ground was so heavy that the instructions were “not to hurt the horse”…therefore his jockey placed him on the outside all around where the ground was less deep.
Good come back race…a horse to follow!
I am a bit annoyed because after TZAR won, I received very nice messages…saying “fantastic, it is so nice to see an old horse” and I found all these compliments very pleasant.
But, when I thought about it, I wondered but what is so extraordinary for people to say that…But of course, old horses… it’s not in fashion!!
What is fashionable is to run 3 year-olds…. People don’t give horses a chance to get old when nevertheless you know that a horse is only mature at 4 or 5…
Now I said it and no one will deprive us of the happiness to see our horses getting old and still fit and well…
Our TZAR’S DANCER did a come back race at Compiègne on March 28th in Prix d’Aumale over hurdles. Ridden by Thomas Beaurain, he won easily…His jockey was thrilled as he didn’t think TZAR would be such a keen fighter!! His owner breeder Marie-Cécile de Saint Seine and all our team were very happy.
We think of his faithful jockey Wilfrid Denuault (still off after his accident at Pau) and of his morning riders, Wilfried Lajon and Grégory Denuault. Congratulations to them.
…since August 2017. She had then to be stopped for a health problem. She did a come back at Saint-Cloud on March 28th in the important Prix d’Estruval (Gr III), a flat race for 4 and 5 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) over 2500m.
DIVINE MAPOOLISH finished 3rd ridden by Pierre Charles Boudot. When getting off, he confirmed that she was keen but needed the race.
Let’s see her next time out.
…AMARA at Lion d’Angers on March 26th. She finished 5th ridden by Wilfried Lajon.
It was in Prix Prince Hindou, a good chase for 4 year-olds over 3400m (2 miles and 1 furlong).
We were pleased with her as we thought she had matured and improved physically. Her jockey was very happy with his filly.
We are going to enjoy ourselves with her this year!
….of EBENE SACREE at Lion d’Angers on March 26th, in Prix Edredon Bleu: a race for 4 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred). She finished 2nd ridden by Wilfried Lajon.
She started at the back of the field, was short of speed, but during the last turn she started coming closer in the far straight and then performed a nice finishing straight…beaten by a much more experienced horse.
This 4 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) by Anzillero out of Toscane Sacrée was bred in Nièvre by Christophe Masle and she ran under the colours of Béatrice Nicco. She comes directly from the family of the champion SPRINTER SACRE.
…qualities! EMIRA DU GOUET ran over hurdles for the first time on March 26th at Lion d’Angers and she finished 4th ridden by Hugo Lucas. We like this filly but she is late and we have to take our time with her. EMIRA ran well, jumped well and finished well!! In the future, she’ll go chasing as she is a big jumper.
EMIRA DU GOUET is a 4 year-old AQPS by Saddler Maker out of Querida de Ferbet and was bred in Nièvre by Thierry Lemoine.
On March 25th at Auteuil, ACCENTUS won Prix Lutteur III by sheer fighting. It is a chase over 4400m (2 miles and 6 furlongs) which is a Listed race, a prep for Prix du Président de la République. Ridden by the young Kilian Dubourg who discovered the horse…ACCENTUS had a superb and smooth race without any mistake.
When after the last fence, the horse changed gear, the suspense raised to a climax and he gained meter after meter to eventually win by a head. Apart from the incredible joy of the owners, Monsieur Marchal and the Family Bossuet, there were two moving facts:
The second horse Fauburg Rosetgri is trained by Gabriel Leenders…..he was happy as well…but nevertheless!!!!
And Kilian Dubourg is the son of Christophe Dubourg who was a jockey in our stables for a long time and who had a nice career with us.
…ECLIPSE MAKER who finished 3rd at Saumur on March 25th in Prix de la Chauvelais, a flat race for 4 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) over 3200m (2 miles).
Ridden by Nicolas Even, they started at the back of the field and came closer in the last turn. ECLIPSE MAKER performed a nice finishing straight and managed to get the 3rd place.
This nice filly is by Saddler Maker out of Silverlea and belongs to her breeders Jacques and André Cyprès.
…for EN TEMPS VOULU, at Pornichet on March 24th in a flat race over 3200m (2 miles). Ridden by Pierre Charles Boudot, she was placed from the start in the middle of the field… then in the last bend she weakened a bit, surprised by the way the other horses suddenly started. But then, when she was well balanced outside the bend, EN TEMPS VOULU performed a nice finishing straight and won by two lengths!
We are satisfied as it is the first win of the first foal of her dam TROTOT from our own family breeding operation.
…was born on March 23rd at Haras de la Monerie. She is a filly by Doctor Dino out of Bejca. She has already a lot of pressure on her shoulders as she is issued from a prestigious family. Her uncle Saint Are is a Group winner in England and her aunt Naiade Mag is the dam of Vroum Vroum Mag (one of the best mares in Ireland and in the United Kingdom, a multiple Group 1 winner).
On March 21st at Haras du Hoguenet, CHRISLEEN had a nice colt foal by BALKO…
Hardly was he born that he proved to be full of life and cheek, we hope he has the same genes of competitor and champion as his famous uncle CHRISETI!
All our family (brother, sisters, nephews, nieces…) are in charge of finding a name for him!! It will be a real mess and we’ll have to ballot for a name!
…our good mare WICCALINA (by Martaline out of Wicca Eria) who won at Auteuil. She ran under the colours of her owner Douglas McMillan.
On March 18th, she had a filly foal by NO RISK AT ALL. This young lady seems to be very smart and cute. When her dam is laying down for a rest, she doesn’t stop shaking her, pushing her for her to stand up as she is hungry…
It is always such a pleasure to see foals out of a mare who ran so well and gave us so much pleasure.
On March 18th at Loudéac, ELAFONISSI (by Apsis out of Steadfast) finished 4th in a hurdle race for 4 year-olds over 3400m (2 miles and 1 furlong), ridden by Marc Olivier Regley.
This late filly didn’t show much on the flat but when she started jumping she was far more performant… Her jockey was quite happy with ELAFONISSI and he told us: “she is serious over jumps and as it was a come back race, she might have lacked a bit to finish but she will improve for this race and you have not to worry, she is going “to make a living”!”
At Compiègne, on March 14th, in a chase over 3900m (2 miles and 3 ½ furlongs), RADIOLOGUE won after a long fight from the last hurdle. Hugo Lucas finally won by a length.
RADIOLOGUE is a small courageous horse who does not stop pleasing us. And this win re-assured us as he was always in the frame but never won before. Now it’s done!
…on the small track. You can see particularly interesting horses worth to be followed:
TINARILOU (by Tin Horse out of Good Bye Marylou)…FLAIRON (by Khalkevi out of Preuve d’Amour)…MAINVILLIERS (by Dream Well out of Réaction Rapide)… EXETERA by Maresca Sorrento out of Isménie)… FINE CHAMPAGNE (by Network out of Quizas Jolie)… FREQUENCE MAG (by Gris de Gris out of Gravure Célèbre).
…did a come back at Nantes on March 6th and he, of course, attracted attention: rearing up in the stalls, setting his ears back for 1500m (7 ½ furlongs)!!!
“And all of a sudden, you don’t know why” his jockey Adrien Fouassier told us “he decided to start working, he became attentive and did what I asked him to do”.
On a very heavy ground, DE BON ALOI finished 3rd. His three owners, Paul Terpereau, Jean Philippe Vinet and Lina Seurin were satisfied with their horse but always a little surprised by his reactions. But we know he will never change.
On March 4th at Nantes, DOUX DINGUE did a come back on the flat in Prix du Clos Pasquier, a race for AQPS (non-thoroughbred) over 3100m (a mile and 7 ½ furlongs). He started at the back of the field and when they were in the far straight, Pierre-Charles Boudot decided to pass everyone (far too soon!). As a result we finished courageous 3rd but…when getting off, Pierre-Charles apologized and said: ”I am sorry, I screwed the race!!” Next time, he will catch up and offer us a win.
For the petty side of history, the first three horses in the frame are from three different stables Leenders: Gabriel, Norbert, Etienne and Grégoire!!
Actually, jumping is not really STARDATE’s sport! Therefore we found an entry in a flat race for lady riders over 2400m (a mile and a half) at Seiches sur le Loir on March 4th. Ridden by Maëlle Lelevreur, she ran well and finished 2nd.
She is not a crack filly but she will do well in her category and will please her different riders.
…on March 4th for MAN TO MAN who did a come back after having been gelded. Last year he debuted badly and his owners decided to have him gelded. Good for him because the horse has changed a lot, he is now serious and attentive and at last he has become professional!
MAN TO MAN ran well, finishing 4th in a maiden race for 3 year-olds. He ran with serious competitors, ridden by Adrien Fouassier. This 3 year-old by Manduro out of Prewar, belongs to Ecurie Muserolle and was bred at Haras du Pley by Baudouin and Anne de la Motte Saint Pierre.
….our mare Trotot: EN TEMPS VOULU ran first time out on March 4th at Seiches sur le Loir. She finished 2nd ridden by Davy Delalande in a flat race for 4 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) over 2700m (13 ½ furlongs). She started in the middle of the field, was very serious all around and at the entrance of the straight she accelerated to finish well. We were pleasantly surprised by this result because she didn’t show much in the morning. As we always say, “you have to run to know”.
EN TEMPS VOULU? You think it is a funny name!!! The story is simple: her dam was born prematurely…therefore TROTOT (too early) and her filly was born on due time, therefore… EN TEMPS VOULU (on time). OK it is a joke in French only… but the choice of names is not that easy as the ones you choose are often already taken.
…for ELUCIDEE at Pornichet on March 4th. She finished 2nd ridden by Arnaud Bourgeais.
This 4 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) by Vision d’Etat out of Olidée worked well in the morning and needed to run. She was up to her first race, serious and professional. She was beaten by a good filly who had already run. ELUCIDEE, bred by Thierry Cyprès will now run over jumps. Her next entry will be at the end of March at Lion d’Angers.
After a year off, on March 2nd at Deauville, PALMERINO ran remarkably well, finishing 2nd in Prix des Falaises over 3400m (2 miles and 1 furlong).
Pierre-Charles Boudot, his jockey, was quite enthusiastic when getting off: “I was well placed all around and outside the bend when I opened my hands, he started very fast, too fast actually…and we found ourselves in the lead. At 50m from the post PALMERINO weakened as it was a come back race!”
His owners Marie-Cécile de Saint-Seine and Paul Terpereau were surprised and thrilled as they didn’t think the horse could be in the frame after such a long time off.
Conclusion: we should have a nice year with him!
On March 1st at Deauville, FANTASTIC BERE ridden by Pierre Charles Boudot finished 5th in Prix du Perche, a maiden race for 3 year-olds over 1500m (7 ½ furlongs).
Pierre-Charles told us that the lack of pace didn’t serve FANTASTIC who is better when finishing on a long acceleration and he will also be better on a longer distance.
With this deep cold, you have to cover yourself…for the face it is easy but hands and feet get very cold!! Don’t they Dylan?
…ACCENTUS at Angers on February 25th in Prix Cesbron Lavau, a chase over 3800m (2 miles and 3 furlongs).
He finished 2nd ridden by James Reveley. ACCENTUS started at the back of the field, and did everything and anything first turn around, he was not concentrated at all. In the last 1500m (7 ½ furlongs), James put him to his job and he passed the field and at this stage of the race we could see the real ACCENTUS.
We can be satisfied with this come back race because ACCENTUS had not all the conditions to perform well. Actually he prefers a longer distance and he is more at ease at Auteuil. But it is not always easy to find the ideal entries to prepare the good objectives.
….our General Assembly of the syndicate Le Pied A L’Etrier. In spite of the cold, the courageous members of our syndicate came to see their horses and we talked about their program for the first term.
Then after the statutory part of the meeting, Pierric Rouxel, manager of Haras de Maulepaire talked about breeding in general and his stud in particular. There were many questions showing a wider interest of our members for the racing world. And as a conclusion: tea, coffee, champagne together with cakes made by our favorite pastrycook, Marie-France Bizeul: an active member of the syndicate.
For our web site version 2018, we wanted to thank our partners very much: Pierre Godet https://www.oploops.com, David Fanin https://www.webnovateur.com (they helped me to create, write and develop the website) then Atalanta: Antoine Chérel took the hand to deal with the SEO (Search Engine Optimization). I managed to work easily together with them. They didn’t know much about the racing world, but they had quite an interesting and original approach and way of listening. And they understood well what I wanted.
I also want to take advantage to thank my translators: Nicole Braem and Gunnar Nordqvist who have been correcting, translating our texts and news for many years.
Thank you to all of them!
…..DOREMIFA DE CLISOU on February 18th at Machecoul in a flat race over 2950m (a mile and 6 ¾ furlongs). She finished 5th.
Ridden by Maryline Eon, she started rather at the back of the field, came closer along the rail in the far straight and finished well.
Patrick Cuvelier’s mare needed to run and she is of course going to improve for this race. This 5 year-old AQPS mare bred by Zacharie Legrenzi is by Kotky Bleu out of Bebenefertiti.
On February 15th at Angers the track of the race-course was measured by the penetrometer at 5.2 which means very heavy…It didn’t bother our PASSIONNANTAISE as she easily won Prix René Couétil, a hurdle race for 5 year-olds 3800m (2 miles and 3 furlongs).
She started nice and quiet on the outside, performed a nice race, she came closer in the far straight and started attacking in the last bend and was not caught up in the finishing straight.
Her jockey, Hugo Lucas was thrilled with his mare, “she was easy, jumped well and finished well.” The owners, the Terpereau family were happy and we got a message of congratulations from her breeder Michel Bodiguel.
…the colours of the family Glemin again! They were back with a new horse RADIOLOGUE at Angers on February 15th.
Ridden by Hugo Lucas in Prix Yann Roy, a chase over 3800m (2 miles and 3 furlongs), he finished 3rd. He ran well, jumped well and finished well. Unfortunately, he lost a shoe mid-way and on a very heavy ground the effect is even worse!
He is a good recruit for Loic and Benjamin Glemin.
…the filly foal ( Spanish Moon out of Trotot ) who was born, in Normandy 3 days ago. She has a superb small head and doesn’t stop playing with her dam.
Now we are looking for a name with the letter I.
….of FILLE D’AVRIL to the Deauville sales on February 14th.
Actually she has just been bought by a breeder of the south west who fell in love with her when seeing her in the parade ring.
We are a bit sad to see her going but we know she will be well looked after by this breeder and we will be happy to see her first foals. Thank you to this super mare who gave us so much pleasure and who was the lance head of the syndicate Le Pied A L’Etrier.
On February 12th, SQUARE THIERS performed a nice come back when finishing 3rd over 2100m (a mile and 2 ½ furlongs) ridden by Adrien Fouassier.
He started in 5th, 6th position on the outside and performed a nice race. Then SQUARE THIERS entered the straight and moved well to finish.
Adrien confirmed that he will be much better on longer straights and grass tracks.
…..BUBBLE SEA. Our good AQPS (non-thoroughbred) mare who had a nice career went to Nièvre. Actually she will be covered by Coastal Path at Haras de Cercy.
If the foal is good-looking like his (her) sire and if he (she) has the quality of his (her) dam…he (she) will have a nice future!
It is nice to dream!!!
Last night at Haras de la Monerie in Normandy, TROTOT had a filly foal by Spanish Moon.
TROTOT is the sister of DELIRANT (who was exported to Ireland). And it is the offspring of our family: Gondleen, Chriseti, Kusea,…Bubble Sea, etc…
And as every time we have a foal, we imagine we have a future star!
Horses in the paddock this morning…
At Pornichet on January 27th, he won brilliantly Prix Solent, a maiden race for 3 year-olds over 1700m (a mile and ½ a furlong), ridden by Adrien Fouassier.
He jumped off better than we planned and pulled a bit, Adrien took the lead from the first bend and the horse was going easy!
Then at the entrance of the straight, FANTASTIC accelerated and won easily.
We are going to give him some time to recuperate before a next entry.
On January 11th at Pornichet, ECU DES FOSSES finished 2nd in Prix Laffitte, a maiden race over 3100m (1 mile and 7 ½ furlongs).
He didn’t take a good start and it took a full trip around the race-course for this superb bay horse to understand what he was supposed to do!! His jockey, Arnaud Bourgeais made the decision to go forward and took the lead one turn before the finishing post. Good for him, because in front the horse was easy and relaxed. Well balanced in the finishing straight, he went on and was just beaten three quarters of a length by the favorite.
ECU DES FOSSES is by Denham Red out of Sarah des Fosses, he belongs to Pierre de la Guillonnière and was bred by Joël Choveau.
Every year at Les Landes, we meet together with Paul Terpereau, Jean-Philippe Vinet and Jessica Besnardeau, our chartered accountant, to debate about the horses of our syndicate, Le Pied A L’Etrier: preparation of our General Assembly which will take place on February 24th at Les Landes and discussion on the future of the horses of the syndicate.
And one month later, on March 24th at Les Landes a meeting is planned with the present shareholders and the future shareholders of our other syndicate Le Mors aux Dents.
We’ll debate the horses and their future and like each time, we’ll finish this meeting with a moment of conviviality.
At Pau on January 2nd, PASSIONNANTAISE ran first time out in a chase. She jumped pleasantly, but her jockey Hugo Lucas had chosen to go along the rail… which was a bad idea as she didn’t manage to cope with the very heavy ground and paid for it at the finish.
Let’s trust her…PASSIONNANTAISE is going to win her race in 2018!!!
…. hardly suitable, at Pau on January 2nd, RADIOLOGUE behaved well, he finished 3rd in Prix Joseph Biraben: a hurdle race over 3400m (2 miles and 1 furlong).
Ridden by Hugo Lucas, they started among the leading horses and kept this place all the time. But at the moment of the final effort, RADIOLOGUE didn’t accelerate and as usual stayed on in his own pace… he didn’t go slower but didn’t go faster either!!!
In 2018, Dear RADIOLOGUE, you’ll have to win! Good to have places, ….yes, but we look forward to a win!!
