Etienne & Grégoire Leenders Race-horse trainers

The news

December 2015

End of the year 2015…

….at Pau on December 31st with SIMBA DE TEILLEE and CAP BRESIL… They finished respectively 4th and 5th.

SIMBA was ridden by Grégory Denuault and CAP BRESIL by Wilfrid Denuault.

SIMBA DE TEILLEE has found her sport over hurdles, while CAP BRESIL will be more at ease chasing in 2016.

Studious holidays!

From December 10th to 20th, we took part in a trip to South America: Argentina and Chile. The objective of this travel organised by FRBC (French Racing and Breeding and Committee) and the breeders’ association was to make the exchanges between our countries more dynamic.

Four breeders, a stud manager, an agent and a trainer took part in the trip. During these 10 days, we visited studs, met breeders, trainers and agents who already work with Europe.

We were enthusiastic over the welcome we received and the opportunity we had to visit the biggest studs who are also leaders in their respective country.

In Argentina: La QuebradaLa Pomme, La Leyenda and La Passion studs and of course a visit of the training centrae and the race-course of San Isidro.

Argentina: cooking tradition…

Wherever we were received, we were treated with extraordinary meat dishes cooked on the BBQ…which made the amateur cooks dream!!!

Argentina: visit of studs

Presentation of stallions, mares and foals, and yearlings.

Race-course of Buenos Aires

We were pleasantly surprised by the race-course of San Isidro. It is big, 1800m (a mile and a furlong)  circumference and offers nice facilities: sand track and grass track.

Exercise rider

On the photograph you can see an exercise rider riding barebacked. We were quite surprised about it but the trainer told us that it was a tradition and that they only saddled the horses for the gallops.

Riders and jockeys don’t want this tradition to change.

The white material around the head is placed that way to quieten horses too keen or too nervous.

The tracks

More than 400 horses exercise there every morning…

Training centre close to Buenos Aires

Next to the race-course of San Isidro, we had the opportunity to visit the training centre with its tracks and stables where we were treated with a hearty breakfast.

MERCIAN PRINCE discovered…

…the race-course of Pau where he ran over hurdles on December 25th. He finished 3rd ridden by Wilfrid Denuault.

MERCIAN PRINCE started in 3rd/ 4th position, performed a nice race and  could have had a better place if he had not made a mistake over the one but last hurdle. He managed to pull himself together but could not make up the lost ground.

The Leenders family wish you all a Happy Christmas…

Best wishes

CRACANTE: 2 races, 2 wins

Over 2400m (a mile and a half), the filly by Denham Red out of Syntagme won well above the competitors on December 18th at Pornichet , ridden by Pierre-Charles Boudot.

Placed in 3rd/ 4th  position all around, CRACANTE changed gear out of the bend and performed a nice finishing straight. She won very easily.

A good recruit for 2016.

Another win for KAILONG

At Pornichet on December 18th, she won easily, ridden by Pierre-Charles Boudot.

The distance of 2100m ( a mile and 2 ½ furlongs) and the all-weather track suited KAILONG perfectly.

Next entries: Pornichet or Deauville.

First time in a cross-country race for JADE’S LEGEND

On December 15th at Pau, she finished 5th ridden by Wilfrid Denuault.

For a mare who discovered this discipline on the very demanding race-course of Pau, JADE’S LEGEND ran as if she had done that all her life: very serious and diligent, she jumped well.

She was just tired to finish.

JADE’S LEGEND has found her sport!

Have a nice holiday LUKY

After quite a good season, LUKY D’ANJOU went back home to spend a quiet winter.

We wish him a good rest before resuming work to prepare the 2016 races.

Nice impression for our SIMBA at Angers on December 6th in a hurdle race over 3400m (2 miles and 1 furlong).

He started in the middle of the field, jumped well, took the lead at the entrance of the finishing straight and didn’t stop gaining lengths to win easily.

His partner, Grégory Denuault was very happy with this win as the horse had been irregular all through the year.

Conclusion: SIMBA DE TEILLEE will go on over hurdles…. As it is obviously what he prefers!!!.….

CAP BRESIL, a horse for next year.

This 3 year-old horse who ran over hurdles at Angers on December 6th ridden by Alain de Chitray gained self-confidence.

CAP BRESIL finished 4th in a good style. He started nice and quiet and little by little gained lengths to finish well.

This 3 year-old gelding by Blue Brasil out of Ultratlantique is a good jumper and he will be better to go chasing next year.

CAP BRESIL was bred by Comte AA Maggiar and Pierre Julienne and he belongs to Douglas McMillan.

First time out for CALONGE

On December 6th at Angers, she finished 5th over hurdles, ridden by Ludovic Solignac.

It was interesting to see CALONGE debuting before winter, as she is not mature and this first race will put her forward for next year.

She performed a serious race, jumped well and her jockey made her work to finish well.

This 3 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) is half-sister to the good Une Vague, listed winner and group placed at Auteuil. She belongs to her breeders Jacky and Andrée Cyprès.

2nd win for KAILONG

Always present, always courageous each time out.

It was the case at Deauville on December 1st when she finished 2nd ridden by Fabrice Véron.

BELGA BERE took a good start, entered the finishing straight in 3rd, 4th position and finished very well.

Holidays or not??? She will tell us.

November 2015

FILLE D’AVRIL always there!

At Deauville on November 30th, our courageous FILLE D’AVRIL has once more been present to finish 2nd, ridden by Pierre Charles Boudot.

From the start, she was short of speed as she ran over a shorter distance than usual: 1500m

( 7 ½ furlongs). But PC told us that on the contrary she had been better and that she had produced a good acceleration in the finishing straight.

December will be a quiet time for her…..and then we’ll see….

Nice dual win.

November 29th at Le Mans was a very nice Sunday: we had two beginners: DUTCH DOCTOR and CRACANTE

…and both brilliantly won first time out.

Cherry on the cake: Pierre-Charles Boudot won three races ( 2 wins for us and one for J-M. Lefebvre).

Let’s not forget that he is on the go for the 2015 jockeys’ championship. Little by little he gets closer to Christophe Soumillon.

CRACANTE: easy win…

….for this 3 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) who ran first time out at Le Mans on November 29th, ridden by Pierre-Charles Boudot.

In a maiden race over 2300m (1 mile and 3 ½ furlongs), CRACANTE started in the middle of the field, took a nice positions in the last bend and performed a good finishing straight.

CRACANTE by Denham Red out of Syntagme, was bred by her owners Pierre and Nelly de la Guillonnière.

DUTCH DOCTOR: better than the company.

By winning so easily, DUTCH DOCTOR did impress his jockey P. C. Boudot who was pleasantly surprised by this young horse first time out.

The race was a maiden for 3 year-old thoroughbreds.

DUTCH DOCTOR started in the middle of the field, was always well placed in the far straight and accelerated in a nice way at the entrance of the finishing straight…he won by 5 lengths!!

This nice horse by Doctor Dino out of La Sayida, was bred by SA Lac International and he belongs to Ecurie Drost.

Elections at France Galop

The trainers’ association got its sceptre back.

In a poll with only two lists, the trainers’ association presided by Criquette Head- Maarek, got the first place back, a place that they had exceptionally to let to the trainers-owners at the previous elections.

Results of the trainers’ votes:

Trainers’ association (Ch. Head-Maarek/ E. Leenders): 53,33% (2 seats)

Two horses placed in the “quinté” (big handicap) on Sunday.

In Prix François de Ganay at Auteuil on November 22nd, a hurdle race over 3900m ( 2 miles and 3 ½ furlongs), we had 2 runners, ARISTO DES MOTTES and UN SUCCES. They finished respectively 4th and 6th.

ARISTO DES MOTTES was ridden by Wilfrid Denuault. Ran well, jumped well, finished well! He has still a margin to improve next year.

Mister UN SUCCES did not feel like running at Auteuil any more, but he had a “good day” and, ridden by Thomas Beaurain, he did surprise us pleasantly.

MERCIAN PRINCE, a horse for the future

Not quite tough enough, he took a good 5th place over hurdles in Prix François de Poncins (a Listed Race), ridden by Wilfrid Denuault.

MERCIAN PRINCE jumped the one but last hurdle very big, an error of youth which cost him the 3rd or 4th place.

The horse will be seen with interest in 2016.

DOTTORE needs to mature

On November 22nd at Auteuil in Prix Beaugency, he finished 5th in his second hurdle race, ridden by Wilfrid Denuault.

DOTTORE pleased us a lot because he ran with horses more experienced than him. He jumped well and finished courageously.

He doesn’t mind the heavy going, which is important for his future at Auteuil.

JADE’S LEGEND: not in her category

At Auteuil on November 22nd, she took part in a chase Prix Sythaj (Gr 3) over 4300m (2 miles and 5 ½ furlongs). She finished 7th ridden by Wilfrid Denuault.

The race went fast and Wilfrid had to force the mare to keep up with the pace. JADE’S LEGEND made a mistake at the water (not the one in front of the stand but the other one) but she finished her race courageously.

Next entry: Angers on December 6th.

On November 18th at Argentan, she finished 3rd ridden by the amateur rider Jean-Philippe Boisgontier.

Once again she was in the money on the flat in a race with horses of her level. She is always courageous and always does her best.

After a few weeks’ rest, BANGKOK INN will resume work and then we’ll know if we keep her on the flat or if she is directed to go jumping.

…. to run over bigger obstacles and on longer distances.

He was 2nd in a chase at Fontainebleau on November 17th, ridden by Wilfrid Denuault.

Although he was short of speed all around, he jumped well and pulled himself together to finish fast..

A few meters further and he would have won.

Wilfrid told us that he will definitely be better at Auteuil with bigger obstacles and longer distances.

His owner breeder Paul Murphy confirmed that MERCIAN KING’s whole family only liked this type of races and especially his dam Mariah Rollins who was a champion who won Group races in England and Ireland.

Nice future for this big and beautiful horse.

DREAM BERRY is going to the other side of the Channel

The son of Dream Well out of Kalberry (n° 267 in the Arqana Autumn sales) made the bidders go up to 205.000 €. The purchase note was signed by the agent  Hubert Barbe (Horse Racing Advisory).

DREAM BERRY was presented by Ecurie Drost, in training with us and bred by Caroline Decazes.

This very good horse had just won Prix Hipparque at Auteuil and has now a very nice future in front of him.

CALIXEL opens her account.

Easy win at Le Mans on November 15th for CALIXEL, a 3 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) by Fragrant Mix out of Maldives, ridden by Pierre-Charles Boudot.

Always in a good position during the race, he started at the entrance of the finishing straight and left the other horses on the spot.

This good horse was quite impressive and will show us even more.

A few weeks holidays……..and next year we’ll start again with CALIXEL with well founded ambitions.

HERLEVA won easily.

At Maure de Bretagne on November 15th, she performed a “health walk”, ridden by Wilfried Lajon.

HERLEVA performed a smooth race, gaining ground over each obstacle and from the second turn around, she took the lead and could not be caught.

She recuperated very quickly after the race. She seems to enjoy racing. She is not that big but has a huge heart!

Next entry at Fontainebleau at the end of November.

SURNAME starts enjoying winning!

On November 14th at Compiègne, he won his second chase, ridden by Wilfrid Denuault.

SURNAME started in the middle of the field and jumped well all around. At the beginning of the finishing straight, Wilfrid decided  to plunge along the rail and they finished very well.

After the post, who was more tired, the rider or the horse?? When he got off, Wilfrid had a laugh and told us: “You have to be in good form to ride him as he is so cold and he doesn’t do anything more than what he is asked to do !”

Next entry: Auteuil.

BRIN DE FILLE opens her account

At last! We were looking forward to a win for BRIN DE FILLE…..and it happened at Angers on November 11th in a chase Prix Wladimir Hall.

Ridden by Wilfrid Denuault on this selective race-course, she managed to adapt to the course quite well, performed a race without any mistake and finished well.

Next entry: The Grand Chase of Angers for 4 year-olds on December 6th.

LUKY D’ANJOU, a courageous little horse!

In the Grand Hurdle Race of Angers on November 11th, our LUKY did a good performance. He finished 4th.

After the race Wilfrid Denuault told us: “he is back to his best at 100% and as usual he gives everything when on the track.”

According to the way he recuperates, his next entry could be at Angers on November 26th.

He made an explosive progress during the race

BOURGUEIL ran Prix Wladimir Hall at Angers on November 11th. He finished 4th , ridden by Wilfried Lajon.

He is a horse who normally runs at the back of the field and finishes fast… but there….we had a big fright as in the back straight, he was so far back that we thought the jockey was going to stop him.

But is was without counting on Wilfried who trusted his horse and fought to the end!!!

BOURGUEIL will go on holiday for a few weeks.

Change of job for Grégoire and Gabriel?

Every year, the race-course of Angers organises a trotting race for flat and jump trainers.

Grégoire and Gabriel had never driven in a race before but they accepted the challenge and they took part with a lot of pleasure. The results were not up to their expectations: 7th and 9th!!!

Isn’t the main thing to take part?

Furthermore, they managed not to gallop…!

Conclusion: “ Roll on next year”

BUBBLE SEA is going on holiday

After quite a busy year with some satisfactions, she ended the year well, finishing 4th in the final race of the challenge AQPS, ridden by Stéphane Laurent.

BUBBLE SEA proved she had the qualities we thought she had. She is tough, courageous and full of will, and she has well deserved a winter rest.

For next year, we’ll see if we go on running her on the flat or if we direct her to go jumping.

CALINE BERE re-assured us

After some misadventures beyond her control she finished 3rd in a flat race at Pornichet, ridden by Mathieu Androuin.

Well placed in 3rd, 4th position all around, CALINE BERE got short of speed at the end of the last bend, floated a little bit but she pulled herself together to perform a nice finishing straight.

She likes the all-weather track, her next entries will be on race-courses which have this surface.

Half come back for RICE BOWL

At Pornichet  on November 5th, he finished 4th very close, ridden by Alexandre Roussel.

RICE BOWL started in the lead and settled a false pace. He started launching the race in the last bend but the last straight seemed very long as the other competitors caught him up at 50m from the post… Distances at the post are: a length, a head, a short head!

He ran well, this winter he will go on running on the different AWT (all-weather tracks) at Pornichet, Deauville and Chantilly.

2nd win for KAILONG

On November 2nd at Durtal, she won her race by a very short head, but quite surely!

KAILONG did her race behind the leaders. In the far straight, her jockey Maryline Eon plunged to the rail and attacked at the end of the bend. Mid-finishing straight she seemed to be beaten but courageously, she found the resources to win.

Next entry at Angers on November 17th in a handicap.

What does a trainer do?

- work his horses and bring them to their best level?

- win races?

- find the best entries?

- go to the races?

No, he spends his life on the telephone!

On November 1st at Saint-Cloud, our horse finished 7th in a “quinté” (big handicap in which

the punters have to find the first five). He was ridden by Ioritz Mendizabal.

He didn’t jump well out of the stalls, stayed at the back of the field for three quarters of the race and started to come closer in the finishing straight missing the 5th place by very little.

We were very happy with this result because KING NONANTAIS doesn’t stop improving and according to Ioritz, “he is able to win a race of this level”

A horse to follow!

October 2015

Nice win for SURNAME…

…..At Nantes on October 31st in a chase, ridden by Wilfrid Denuault.

SURNAME started in the middle of the field, jumped well, started to get closer in the wood and fought courageously to get the first place.

This son of Nickname out of Turbotière is a beautiful, big, grey five year-old horse.

In a race he is very cold and the jockey can’t afford to fall asleep or to be a stowaway…

Well done Wilfrid for this win which pleased the owner Bruno Sigrist!

New…..web site…

Gabriel Leenders who is a trainer on the site of Les Landes at Jarzé, invites you to go and visit his web site.

ASCRA: not beaten much!

On October 31st at Pornichet, our courageous filly finished 2nd after having fought all along the last straight.

ASCRA started in the lead, accelerated strongly at the end of the bend, outrunning her opponents. “This devil of Fabrice Véron” judged well….it nearly worked….she was beaten by a head!

This good little filly by Voix du Nord has still a few good entries before the end of the year.

BUBBLE SEA: good race

In Prix Chloris at Saint-Cloud on October 29th, she showed once again how courageous she was when finishing 4th ridden by Pierre-Charles Boudot.

The instructions for BUBBLE were to take the lead from the start as she did in her latest races. But this time, her jockey told us that in the far straight, she pulled and “consumed too much petrol” and she paid for it to finish…we should have been 3rd.

Nevertheless, her two owners: David Lamère and Etienne were satisfied with their filly, and so was her breeder: Pascal Noue from Haras dela Hêtraie

ARISTO DES MOTTES: a nice race

At Auteuil on October 27th, he finished 4th over hurdles in Prix Céréaliste (the “quinté” a race in which the punters have to find the first five.), ridden by Wilfrid Denuault.

ARISTO DES MOTTES runs as well over hurdles as in chases. Actually, he finished 3rd in a chase two weeks ago on this same race-course.

Next year he will be 6 and fully matured. We’ll have nice satisfactions with

Autumn colours at Les Landes

Starting a ride in the forest.

Arrival on the main track.

Starting hacking around.

HERLEVA: chasing for the first time

On October 25th at Maure-de-Bretagne, she ran in a chase for the first time and finished 2nd,  ridden by Wilfried Lajon.

HERLEVA performed a good race, jumped well and finished well.

She will go up the scales little by little.

Our dear champion: AMIRANT…

… won Grand Prix de Nantes, a listed race, 13th race of the challenge “Défi du Galop”, ridden by Pierre-Charles Boudot.

How pleasing it was to see AMIRANT run: a fighter who never gave up

He started in 4th, 5th position, was a bit surprised when the race was launched  in the little wood by Golden Storm (the second) and, as soon as AMIRANT found an opening, the fight started and it was fantastic!!

Pierre-Charles told us: “I wanted to take my time in the wood as I know the ground is heavy there and my horse doesn’t like it. But when I asked him to go, he answered well as usual!”

We were all stirred…and it is also for that sort of thing we like racing.

AMIRANT will now have a few weeks holidays. Once again he performed a very good season.

We want to thank him as well as all the staff looking after him everyday.

FILLE D’AVRIL: always present

On October 23rd at Sables d’Olonne, our courageous mare ran well again.

She started in the middle of the field, she came into gear at the entrance of the straight and fought to get the second place.

On the photograph, you can see Fabrice Véron  quite happy to be associated  with FILLE D’AVRIL again with whom he won last summer on this same race-course.

Next entry? We’ll ask the trainers about it.

DREAM BERRY opens his records

Nice win for DREAM BERRY on October 22nd at Auteuil ridden by Alain de Chitray.

This young and late 4 year-old showed us how he improved for his 3rd time out: ridden in the middle of the field, he jumped well, came closer between the last two hurdles… and performed a nice finishing straight.

DREAM BERRY comes from a very good family producing good horses, but it was necessary to be patient with him to give him time to mature.

A horse for the future!

MERCIAN PRINCE performed a very nice….

…..race at Auteuil on October 22nd when he finished 3rd ridden by Wilfrid Denuault.

The result might have been totally different as MERCIAN PRINCE made a mistake at the one but last hurdle which stopped him dead. This broke his rhythm and the time he took to start again, the other horses had increased their advantage.

He is a horse to be followed next time out.

A nice autumn Sunday!

On October 18th, we were quite satisfied with our horses who won their races easily:

COMECA at Saint-Brieuc

Common point: the three of them showed us nice potential in the spring and now autumn is here and they do what we expected from them.

3 horses to follow.

…..without any contest on October 18th at Cholet , ridden by Mathieu Androuin.

As he likes doing it, CHAMINIOU took the lead and waited for the others. At the entrance of the finishing straight, he started and didn’t stop gaining lengths to win very easily.

We were very pleased with this win as CHAMINIOU AULMES beat an estimated horse and proved to be as good as we thought he was in spring.

COMECA: just a healthy tour!

You take: a good and well bred filly, well trained, a good jockey, a good track, a good entry and ….as a result, you win by 7 lengths!

This is exactly the show COMECA performed at Saint-Brieuc on October 18th, ridden by Thomas Beaurain.

To be continued in our next……well, next time out!

PALMERINO: better than the company!

At Niort on October 18th , he made short work of the other horses. He actually won by 8 lengths in a hurdle race over 3800m (2 miles and 6 furlongs), ridden by Sébastien Zuliani.

Last time out at Angers, PALMERINO was very unlucky, falling at the last hurdle because of another horse falling in front of him, when he was fighting to win.

We are therefore re-assured and this easy win of PALMERINO confirms all the good qualities we think he has!

Good race of LUKY D’ANJOU…

…in the Grand Chase of Le Pin-au-Haras on October 18th . He finished 3rd ridden by Wilfrid Denuault.

LUKY D’ANJOU started in the middle of the field, always kept his position, accelerated well in the last bend and defended himself up to the post.

In the second last bend, he nearly fell as another horse slipped beside him and it was a near thing…

It was a beautiful day because contrary to what embittered people say, the weather was very nice in Normandy!!!

SIMBA DE TEILLEE is back to his best!

When finishing 2nd at Saint Brieuc on October 18th, he re-assured us  because he performed a few moderate races in spring and the results were not to our satisfaction.

Grégory Denuault was happy with his race as SIMBA DE TEILLEE was serious all around and finished well.

Let’s hope he will go on that way!

JADE’S LEGEND: 1st race at Auteuil

On October 17th at Auteuil, our 5 year-old mare  ran a chase for the first time. She was 5th with honour, ridden by Wilfrid Denuault.

JADE’S LEGEND was serious over the fences, jumped everything well but the distance of 3700m (2 miles and 2 ½ furlongs) was too short for her…she is a stayer.

It will be interesting to see her again at Auteuil.

We have just received beautiful photographs of our champion USHUAIA QUATZ who is now a brood mare.

She is in foal to Slickly, is in a very good state and we look forward to the foal she is going to give us next spring.

Thank you to the Quiniou family for these news.

A good performance for ARISTO DES MOTTES

At Auteuil on October 11th , when finishing 3rd in Prix André Adèle, a chase “quinté” (race in which the punters have to find the first five), he proved to be really improving.

ARISTO DES MOTTES has become more mature and has got tougher for this kind of race.

The “quintés” are difficult races with many runners, there is never any dead time because there is always pace in these races.

ARISTO has gone up one step and his future is bright.

Good come back race for BEJCA

On October 11th at Le Pin-au-Haras, she was second in a flat race ridden by Arthur Péan.

BEJCA started at the back of the field, came closer in the last bend and performed a nice finishing straight, only missing the first place by very little.

Next objective: flat or hurdles according to the possible entries?

SURNAME: resuming competition

He had not run for a year and did a come back in a chase on October 11th at Le Pin-au-Haras. He finished 4th ridden by Grégory Denuault.

SURNAME performed a good come back, jumped well and finished well. But he was short of speed because he has to get back to racing rhythm.

One more race in the province and then…. Paris!

KING NONANTAIS: an inaccurate race

On October 8th  at Bordeaux, he finished 4th ridden by Maxime Guyon.

This place doesn’t reflect KING NONANTAIS’ s value. He didn’t jump well out of the stalls, came closer along the rail in the very heavy going and couldn’t express himself as usual.

It will be better next time!

Easy win of ASCRA….

…for her come back on October 4th at La Roche sur Yon ridden by Stéphane Laurent.

Always in 2nd position, ASCRA started at the end of the bend and won with authority.

This win did please everyone, as ASCRA had been stopped more than a year following a tendon problem.

The patience of her owner J. Lopez was rewarded.

First win over jumps for HERLEVA at Vitré on October 4th, ridden by Wilfried Lajon.

She was in 2nd position all around, accelerated at the entrance of the finishing straight and won easily.

Nice and quiet, she is going to make her living…and maybe even better!!!

HINDOU is worth better….

……than his 4th place over hurdles at Argentan on October 4th, even though he performed a neat race.

He enjoys rain coming as he is a horse who loves heavy going.

The next entries for HINDOU will be chasing.

FOREZ ERIA: at last!

We had expected a good performance from FOREZ ERIA for quite a while and it eventually happened ….2nd at Argentan over hurdles on October 4th

Ridden by Ludovic Solignac, FOREZ performed a race without any mistake, she showed skill over the jumps and courage to finish.

This 3 year-old thoroughbred by Arcano out of Arangela is late but has still a margin of improvement. The blinkers put her to work and were beneficial for her mental…

Holidays are now finished Miss!

Good performance of FONRAUD

On October 4th at La Roche sur Yon, he finished 3rd ridden by Stéphane Laurent.

FONRAUD started in 2nd, 3rd position, defended himself well in the finishing straight, even started again at 50m from home.

This big mover always finds it hard to deal with the bends….but before running him on the long straight lines of Parisian tracks, we would like him to get more seasoned.

BUBBLE SEA: a filly who is improving

On October 2nd at Saint-Cloud, BUBBLE SEA finished 4th, ridden by Pierre-Charles Boudot in Prix Glorieuse, a B race for 4 and 5 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred).

She started in the lead as usual, defended her position as well as possible when the other horses attacked her and missed the third place by very little.

At the beginning of the year, BUBBLE SEA was late and didn’t show all her potentialities. With age she gets better like good wine!

Next entry: Prix Chloris at Saint-Cloud.

Another good performance for…

AMIRANT who finished 3rd in Prix Scaramouche (Listed) at Saint-Cloud on October 2nd, ridden by Pierre Charles Boudot.

Over 2800m (a mile and 6 furlongs), they had to play for time and be patient: therefore, they started in the middle of the field and at mid-straight, Pierre Charles went out to finish once more in a pleasant action.

We might have another race for AMIRANT this year…it will all depend on the weather!

Something new in the LEENDERS stables

From October 1st , on the racing cards, in the column “trainers”, you will see E & G. LEENDERS.

Actually, we have decided to change status and become a training company “ Etienne et Grégoire Leenders”.

As far as Gabriel is concerned, he preferred to be on his own and he is an independent trainer.

It’s very pleasant to work with one’s children!

BEJAYA: winning first time …

….over jumps, at Nantes on October 1st.

After two races on the flat in the spring, BEYAJA went back to stud for 2 months. Considering her pedigree, we decided to school her over jumps.

Good for us as she performed a serious and smooth race and a very good finishing straight.

Her jockey Sébastien Zuliani was very enthusiastic after this nice win.

BEYAJA is a 4 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) by Califet out of Djurjura.

COMECA is learning her job

At Nantes on October 1st; she finished 4th, ridden by Mathieu Androuin.

COMECA started in 2nd position but unfortunately pulled too much and paid for it at the end,  even though it was a close finish.

LUKY D’ANJOU: serious race

On October 1st at Nantes, he finished 5th in a chase over 3800m (2 miles and 3 furlongs),  ridden by Wilfried Lajon.

Always well placed in the middle of the field, LUKY D’ANJOU did respect the big fences and finished well.

We have the feeling the horse is back to what he was before his injury.

FILLE D’AVRIL did not like the heavy going

On October 1st at Nantes in Prix Paimpoeuf, a handicap on the mile, she was still there, finishing 4th ridden by Pierre-Charles Boudot.

Her jockey told us that FILLE D'AVRIL didn’t manage to handle the very heavy going at the bend of the wood and found it hard to start again after that.

Let’s see her next time on a ground more to her liking!

First time out for DOTTORE

On October 1st at Auteuil, the son of Doctor Dino out of Turbotière discovered competition. He behaved very well over hurdles and finished 4th, ridden by Alain de Chitray.

He started in the middle of the field and didn’t make any mistake. He finished well but we had the feeling that he would have been more at ease on a longer distance than the 3600m (2 miles and 2 furlongs) of the race.

This big colt is only 3, he is a horse for the future!

September 2015

BANGKOK INN at her place

At Argentan on September 28th, she finished 3rd in Prix Cadoudal, ridden by Mathieu Androuin.

BANGKOK INN did her job nicely: well placed all around, she finished well and was beaten by better horses

CLAIE: a day to forget

On September 28th at Maisons-Laffitte, in the important Prix du Bourbonnais, CLAIE didn’t show her real value when finishing 4th.

She didn’t travel well at all and was very nervous when arriving at the race-course. She didn’t manage to get rid of her stress and could not defend her chances.

This disappointing result doesn’t alter the confidence we have in this good filly.

Retirement for MARCETI

On September 28th, he left our stables to go to Normandy. He went to join the “old ones”:

Echo des Mottes, Joseille and Gondleen.

MARCETI arrived here as a yearling in 2009. He performed an exemplary career, winning two listed races and being listed placed several times and nearly always in the money: 31 races and 253.000 € prize money,

He is a very attractive horse with a lot of personality and a whimsical spirit.

Thank you Old Soldier to have given us so much joy.

We’ll soon give you more news about him.

LANGUE D’OC winning his first chase

Without any excitement, he won his chase by 7 lengths ridden by Wilfrid Denuault at Machecould on September 27th.

Always in second position, LANGUE D’OC jumped very well. At the entrance of the finishing straight, Wilfrid launched his horse who left his competitors on the spot.

This son of Doctor Dino is only 3 and we are certainly going to enjoy ourselves with him.

DREAM BERRY: first time over jumps

On September 23rd at Enghien, he ran over hurdles for the first time and finished 3rd , ridden by Wilfrid Denuault.

A serious race without any mistake …and on top, he finished very well.

DREAM BERRY is a 4 year-old thoroughbred by Dream Well out of Kalberry. He is the brother of the very good Berryville who had a classic career at Auteuil and Pau.

Discovery meeting

On September 19th , the syndicate Ecurie Le Pied A L’Etrier and the future shareholders met at Les Landes:

  • discovery of the horses and of our training centre
  • formal meeting to present  the syndicate

…..and then……we sat down at the table!!!

A pleasant moment…

…..champagne to celebrate the first winners of our young syndicate.

Then departure to the race-course of Craon.

It was a particularly rewarding day as the first shareholders and the future ones could exchange on their common passion for race-horses and racing.

Come back race for…

….Wilfrid Denuault and ARISTO DES MOTTES….and everything went fine. They finished 2nd at Nantes on September 17th.

The race was smooth: always in good position behind a leader, ARISTO finished in the middle of the track while the winner came along the rail and finished faster… There was not much between them.

Wilfrid had been off since June (following an injury of an ankle) and we missed him a lot!

Half come back for BLUSHING BERE

On September 17th at Nantes, he finished 3rd over hurdles ridden by Thomas Beaurain.

BLUSHING BERE started at the back of the field, jumped well, came closer in the last 5 furlongs and finished well only missing the second place by very little.

Thomas told us that he would be better with the rhythm of “Parisian” races.

Good first time out for MERCIAN PRINCE…

…at Auteuil on September 16th.  He had only run once over jumps before but he had fallen at the last hurdle when he would have won the race.

Fortunately, he liked Auteuil very much and ran remarkably well finishing 3rd, ridden by Alain de Chitray. He is beaten by more experienced horses.

MERCIAN PRINCE is a horse for the future and he has certainly more ability for chasing.

On September 14th at Moulins, she won Prix Video Rock on 2200m (1 mile and 3 furlongs), ridden by Mathieu Androuin.

CAMAIEU DES MOTTES started in 5th, 6th position and improved in the last bend. Mathieu stayed behind the leaders as long as possible and then passed them in the finishing straight to win by a neck.

Fantastic day at Moulins since we had two winners CAMAIEU and BUBBLE SEA and Mathieu Androuin had 3.

BUBBLE SEA enjoys winning

Before the race of Moulins on September 14th , we were not sure to win as the ground was heavy and there were pretty good horses.

But it was without taking into account the courage of BUBBLE SEA who didn’t use any tactics: in the lead all around, she accelerated at the entrance of the last bend and didn’t stop gaining lengths up to the finishing post.

Her jockey Mathieu Androuin was quite happy that she won so easily.

BANGKOK INN: expected win

On September 13th at Châteaugontier, she won a flat race on 2900m (1 mile and 6 ½ furlongs) quite easily, ridden by Guillaume Fourrier.

She started in 3rd position, her jockey launched her at the entrance of the last bend. She performed a nice finishing straight and no one managed to catch her.

BANGKOK INN, go on like that!

JADE’S LEGEND is improving

On September 13th at La Roche-sur-Yon, she was second in a chase on 4200m (2 miles and 5 furlongs), ridden by Thomas Beaurain.

She ran well and was only beaten at the very end by a better horse.

JADE’S LEGEND likes jumping and the long distances suit her.

At 5, her career over jumps is only starting.

She had not run since March 2014 following leg problems.

For her come back at Lion d’Angers on September 9th, “GEORGETTE” won a chase without meeting any resistance, ridden by Alain de Chitray.

She performed a regular race, jumped some of the obstacles a little bit big and made the difference on the flat.

POUR TOI GEORGES is certainly going to do well this autumn.

COMECA: good first time out

On September 9th at Lion d’Angers in a race for 3 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred), she finished 4th ridden by Mathieu Androuin.

COMECA started in the middle of the field, found herself a little bit short of speed when the other horses started but came back very well and was beaten very little for the 3 rd place.

Her jockey confirmed to us that with 20 meters more she would have won because she was the one who finished better.

COMECA, by Smadoun out of Ismenie, belongs to Douglas McMillan and to her breeders, Pierre and Nelly de la Guillonière.

Well done to the family!

We are all very satisfied with the 3 days at Craon. Each of the Leenders won:

Etienne et Grégoire with BELGA BERE and ACCENTUS

Norbert with AKENDO

AMIRANT always present

On September 7th at Craon, in Grand Prix de Craon-Mayenne which is a part of the challenge Défi du Galop, AMIRANT yet again behaved remarkably well, finishing 3rd ridden by Pierre-Charles Boudot.

He took a good position from the start and as usual fought heartily and courageously.

His jockey didn’t stop praising his behaviour and told us how good it was to ride such a nice horse.

Let’s not forget that in the challenge Défi du Galop, there are always very good horses of listed or group level.

On September 7th at Craon, he finished 5th in the second part of the handicap, ridden by Adrien Fouassier.

Not inspired? Closed in? These are the reasons for this disappointing place.

This doesn’t question KING NONANTAIS’s qualities. We’ll see him again on Parisian tracks.

CAVTAT: injured

He ran in the “quinté” (big handicap) at Craon. He deserved to be the second favourite because he is a very good horse.

Unfortunately, CAVTAT injured himself during the race. But in spite of this, he finished courageous 4th.

Maxime Guyon was sorry about this accident: “ What a pity, I would have won.”

CAVTAT is back from the veterinary clinic with a plaster and we have now to be very patient.

BALNILLA: 1st win

On September 6th at Ploermel, she won a chase on the distance of 3700m (2 miles and 2 ½ furlongs) being quite better than the company.

Wilfried Lajon managed to hold BALNILLA at the back of the field up to mid race and, after 2000m (a mile and 2 furlongs), blinker to the left…. Let those who love me follow me…..let’s meet at the finishing post!

In spite of her speed, she is a filly who jumps the chase obstacles very well. And, little by little she will learn to be less keen.

The partners of Ecurie Pied A L’ ETRIER present on the race-course were extremely happy.

ACCENTUS won very easily!

On September 6th at Craon, he won Prix Courant d’Air, a chase on the distance of 3700m ( 2 miles and 2 ½ furlongs), ridden by Thomas Beaurain.

ACCENTUS started at the back of the field, got closer nice and quietly in the far straight and performed a very nice finishing straight.

His jockey told us: “I enjoyed myself all around, controlled everything and it was easy to win.”

Nice seeing ACCENTUS again in 3 weeks/one month!

In the Grand cross-country race of Craon; he couldn’t honour his fans with their confidence. He finished 5th.

His jockey Thomas Beaurain told us:” I had nothing in my hands, he was spiritless and was never in the race.”

It was a “day without” for KAPVILLE.

On September 5th at Craon in Prix Richard de Gennes, he didn’t forfait our esteem and finished 4th ridden by Mathieu Androuin.

This race is always a reference for 3 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) and CHAMINIOU AULMES did show a real promise.

CHAMINIOU AULMES is a courageous horse who doesn’t stop improving.

BELGA BERE at last!

For the last two years, she had accumulated places but didn’t obviously want to win.

It is now done, BELGA BERE opened her record on September 5th at Craon in a flat race on 2400m (a mile and a half), ridden by Tony Piccone.

Good ride, good race and good finish… it is the secret for a win!

WINGED FURY: nice race

On September 4th at Auteuil in Prix World Citizen, a chase on 4400m (2 miles and 6 furlongs), she finished 4th ridden by Alain de Chitray.

It is a nice performance for WINGED FURY because she still lacks experience over the big fences of Auteuil.

Her jockey told us that she had still made too many efforts and that when she is better mechanized, she will be able to win this type of race.

CALIXEL: nice impression…

…for his first race at Châteaubriant on September 4th in Prix Le Pontet, a race for 3 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred). He finished 2nd , ridden by Mathieu Androuin.

CALIXEL did the whole race in 4th position, seemed to be beaten at the entrance of the finishing straight but he came back courageously to finish pleasantly.

This gelding by Fragrant Mix out of Maldives doesn’t show much in the morning. We were pleasantly surprised by his good behaviour.

… in Prix Julien Brossais on September 2nd at Saint-Malo, ridden by Mathieu Androuin.

Actually in the last 1 ½ furlong, she came to the front to win but she jumped the road passage and slipped . Therefore she was stopped for a little while but started again courageously to finish 3rd.

CAMAIEU DES MOTTES is a filly we have a lot of esteem for. She is certainly going to win a good race.

August 2015

Good come back for LUKY D’ANJOU

He had been stopped for a small fracture and had not run since June 2014.

On August 31st, LUKY D’ANJOU resumed competition at Vertou in a hurdle race on 3700m (2 mile and 2 ½ furlongs). He finished 4th , ridden by Wilfried Lajon.

We thought he would make it in the finish, but he proved to be short of competition.

We hope to have a nice autumn with him.

MARCETI still there!

In the “quinté” (big handicap) at Deauville on August 30th, he finished 7th, ridden by Pierre-Charles Boudot.

MARCETI started in the middle of the field, and did well in a close finish.

Once back, Pierre-Charles told us: “I thought I was going to win because I had a good race up to a furlong from home. I then weakened as the horse was short of competition. I trust him for the next “quinté” at Craon at the end of September.”

A word to the Wise!

FONRAUD: expected win!

Jumping is not his sport!!!   FONRAUD had disappointed us when running his previous races over hurdles.

Never mind….never beaten…. We went go back on the flat… and we won….at Redon on August 30th!!!

Ridden by Christopher Grosbois, he started in 3rd position, accelerated at the entrance of the bend and performed a nice finishing straight winning by 3 to 4 lengths.

It was a great joy for her owner, Marie-Cécile de Saint-Seine, who always believed in him.

At Redon on August 30th, she was 3rd in a flat race on 2950m (a mile and 6 ¾ furlongs), ridden by Christopher Grosbois.

Unfortunately BANGKOK INN started too well and pulled a lot first time around. In spite of all these efforts, she finished well, only beaten in the last meters.

The two horses in front of her are good five-year-olds who are much tougher than she is.

We are satisfied and we hope she will follow in her sister Urbaine’s footsteps.

Nice race of JADE’S LEGEND

On August 26th at Dieppe, she ran particularly well. She finished 3rd, ridden by Wilfried Lajon.

In a chase with quite a fast pace, JADE’S LEGEND jumped well, and finished courageously, missing the second place by very little. She shouldn’t be ashamed of this result because the winner is a good horse.

The distance of 3900m (2 miles and 3 ½ furlong) and the heavy going didn’t disturb her at all, on the contrary. The mare appreciates this kind of course with big obstacles.

BUBBLE SEA opens her records

On August 23rd at Mauron, the filly BUBBLE SEA won easily for the first time of her career.

Ridden by Adrien Fouassier, she took the lead from the start and controlled the race. She slowed down at the entrance of the last bend and started again to win very easily.

We were all very happy with her because previously, each time out, we were a bit disappointed but we knew she had the potential to win.

AMIRANT cheered up…

Since the beginning of the year, AMIRANT has performed some average races and on top he was sometimes unlucky.
That’s why we decided to make him enjoy himself in the province for less difficult tasks.
Good decision as AMIRANT won with authority and without overextending himself…on August 17th at Châteaubriant.
His jockey P. C. Boudot told us that he relaxed in the finishing straight when he saw that he was going better than his opponent.

HERLEVA: good first time over hurdles.

On August 17th at Rochefort sur Loire, HERLEVA finished 2nd over hurdles ridden by Grégory Denuault.
She started in the middle of the field, jumped easily and finished well.
Good recruit!

….her race at Châteaubriant on August 17th has to be forgotten.
She didn’t take a good start….. had traffic problems…. Movements in the straight where she was blocked in….. she might not have recuperated from her previous race… here are a few reasons why our FILLE was not in the first five.
Don’t worry, we’ll find her back to her best!

BUBBLE SEA: a good race

At Saint Jean de Monts, on August 16th, BUBBLE SEA finished 2nd in a flat race on 2650m (a mile and 5 ¼ furlongs), ridden by Anthony Bernard.
Although there was a small number of runners, there was a good pace and in spite of this rhythm they finished well.
BUBBLE SEA will stay on the flat this year.
Hats off to her part owner David Lamère who had come all the way from Alsace!

LANGUE D’OC reassures us.

At Rochefort sur Loire on August 16th, LANGUE D’OC was 3rd in a hurdle race for 3 year-olds on the distance of 3200m (2 miles) ridden by Grégory Denuault.
We were disappointed with the last two starts of LANGUE D’OC as it didn’t reflect his morning work.
With the cheek pieces, he was keener and more concentrated on his work, but as a counterpart, he slightly pulled… and therefore finished less well.
Still a few adjustments to do and everything will be OK!

CHAMINIOU easily won at Saint Jean de Monts on August 16th, ridden by Anthony Bernard.
Emmanuel Bodard’s horse didn’t use tactics: “let those who love me follow me”!
He started in the lead, controlled the whole race and finished very well
This 3 year-old AQPS by Anabaa Blue out of River Gold Aulmes who was not particularly precocious, needed time to mature.
Horse to follow.

CLAIE: a very good filly!

At Vichy on August 12th, the “Critérium du Centre” was run, it is a reference race in the
programme of the 3 year old AQPS (non-thoroughbred).
CLAIE finished 2nd ridden by P. C. Boudot.
Well placed in the middle of the field, she started after the road crossing but had not an easy route and had to change line. The few meters she lost then probably prevent her from finishing closer.
CLAIE is very good and we’ll see her again in the two classic races in the autumn .

KING NONANTAIS: another win!

What a pleasure it is to see this courageous horse KING who doesn’t stop improving…he has just won a handicap quite easily at Lion d’Angers on August 10th ridden by Adrien Fouassier.
On the distance of 2300m (a mile and 3 ½ furlongs), he started in the middle of the field, plunged towards the rail as soon as they were out of the bend and performed a very nice finishing straight.
KING NONANTAIS by Air Chief Marshal out of Castries was bred in Normandy by Philippe Goupil and he runs under the colours of André Rubino.

Good first time out for CAMAIEU DES MOTTES

On August 9th at Lion d’Angers, CAMAIEU DES MOTTES finished 2nd ridden by Mathieu Androuin.
CAMAIEU is a filly we esteem because she hasn’t stopped improving with work. She had a two months spell in spring and she came back in full form.
She is a 3 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) by Sunday Break out of Qasino des Mottes and she comes from the breeding operation of Joel and Claudie Poirier….des Mottes.

1st win for LE PIED A L’ETRIER

We were really looking forward to this first win and it is FILLE D’AVRIL who opened the account of Ecurie Le Pied A L’Etrier.

This syndicate has existed since January 1st 2015 and is quite successful:

15 races, 1 win and 12 places.

“And it is not finished!”

FILLE D’AVRIL won by a nose!

We had to wait for the photograph for a few minutes to have her win confirmed.

On August 3rd at Sables d’Olonne, FILLE D’AVRIL started as a favourite, and she has not disappointed her fans.

Ridden by Fabrice Véron, she performed a nice race. In the finishing straight, all the horses were on the same line for a very close finish.

But, FILLE D’AVRIL was the best one!

Winning come back for MARCETI

Following a health problem, he hadn’t run for a year.

MARCETI didn’t miss his come back on August 3rd at Sables d’Olonne as he won on 2700m (a mile and 5 ½ furlongs), ridden by the amateur rider Edouard Monfort.

Always as keen and full of energy, he started in 2nd, 3rd position and kept this place all around. At the entrance of the finishing straight, they were 4 or 5 on the same line but well supported by his rider, he made the difference.

Once more, MARCETI makes us quite satisfied.

July 2015

News from Wilfrid

Following an accident at Senonnes on June 21st, Wilfrid Denuault had a double fracture of the

He can only be patient although he misses the horses a lot but he will have to wait until September.

Cheer him up! we look forward to seeing him back.

BUBBLE SEA is back on the flat

After two bad experiences over jumps, she finished 4th at Molières on July 26th on the distance of 2600m (a mile and 5 furlongs), ridden by Wilfried Lajon.

BUBBLE SEA started in the middle of the field, came closer on the far side last time around, but turned on the wide outside in this close bend.

Therefore she lost a lot of ground and couldn’t compete for a better place.

She will go on in this discipline which definitely suits her better.

CAVTAT: 1st win

Easy win for this 3 year-old thoroughbred by Doctor Dino out of Steadfast at Vichy on July 23rd.

CAVTAT started at the back of the field and soon started pulling as there was no pace at all. Maxime Guyon then decided to move forward….They took the lead in the far straight and went on to the finishing post nice and quiet.

CAVTAT is a horse for the future, we had given him half a rest in spring which allowed him to get stronger and more mature.

He has nice surprises lying in store for us in the autumn.

He was bred in Normandy by James Donnary.

On July 23rd at Vichy, KING NONANTAIS won very easily, ridden by Pierre-Charles Boudot.

He started in the middle of the field, came closer at the end of the last bend, accelerated and won very easily.

He is a 3 year-old thoroughbred by Air Chief Marshal out of Castries, bred by Philippe Goupil in Normandy.

He is a late horse who will certainly do well and go up the grades this autumn.

Thanks to this win, we got two winners on the same day as we had already won with CAVTAT one hour earlier.

CLAIE: expected first time out

When you are Trifolium’s sister and Urticaire’s sister, you are not allowed any mistakes!

On July 21st at Lion d’Angers, for her first time out, CLAIE finished 2nd, ridden by Jérôme Claudic.

At the back of the field for the first three quarters of the race, she started to come closer in the last bend and performed a very good finishing straight.

CLAIE is a 3 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) by Early March out of Opium des Mottes.

A filly for the future!

Racing is also this!

Etienne Leenders, Paul Terpereau, Pierre de la Guillonière and Douglas McMillan.

-          4 partners satisfied with the performance of their filly CLAIE

-          A good picnic on a privileged setting, the race-course of Lion d’Angers, with families and friends…

A strawberry tart, an apricot tart and a chocolate cake washed down with a nice Anjou Rosé wine!

Isn’t life beautiful!

FILLE D’AVRIL: what to say?

That once more she makes us satisfied with her second place.

At Maisons-Laffitte on July 17th, FILLE D’AVRIL ran very well again on a mile, ridden by Pierre-Charles Boudot.

Placed close to the lead, we thought she was weakening at a furlong from the post but it was without counting on her courage and pugnacity.

Her jockey told us that when he was at half a length of the lead horse, they were pushing him without being able to pass him.

FILLE D’AVRIL is used to the second place and it has now become a joke between us.

Discovery of Les Landes

The company France Sire came here in May to shoot a film on our training centre. It shows beautiful pictures.

The special thing is that they used a drone that followed the horses on the tracks.

You can see it on the following web-site:

ACCENTUS in good company

On July 14th at Dieppe, he was 5th in a chase ridden by Thomas Beaurain.

For the first time, ACCENTUS met experienced and valuable horses and he behaved well.

He started at the back of the field, jumped well and finished very fast.

His jockey told us that, should he have known the horse, he would have had a better place.

CALINE BERE: an encouraging come back race

She had not run since November 2014 following a racing accident.

For her come back at Senonnes-Pouancé on July 14th, CALINE BERE re-assured us: we have found again the filly that we estimated last year.

Always in 4th/5th position during the race, she weakened when the others started but eventually changed gear to come and finish very fast in 4th place.

Her jockey Jérôme Claudic was very happy with the filly.

BALNILLA: we thought she would make it…

…..and win, but our courageous little one “only finished second” in her first chase.

At Questembert on July 12th, BALNILLA, far more relaxed, jumped well but got blocked in the last diagonal line which cost her the win.

Her jockey Wilfried Lajon was congratulated by some members of L’Ecurie Le Pied A L’Etrier, who came to support their filly.

They secretly hoped it would be a first winner for their syndicate.

Patience, patience!!!

BELGA BERE: a fair race

She is a tough filly who has no turn of foot, but who never gives up.

A good proof of it is her race at Saint-Malo on July 12th when she finished 2nd ridden by Fabrice Veron.

BELGA BERE started in the lead, was caught up at the entrance of the finishing straight but started again courageously.

Easy win of UN SUCCES

On July 10th at Châteaubriant, he won a hurdle race without meeting any resistance on 4100m (2 miles and 4 ½ furlongs), ridden by Wilfried Lajon.

He started in 4th / 5th position, started to progress at the entrance of the bend and….he made off, leaving his competitors on the spot.

Our dear UN SUCCES knows his job and for his moral, we have to find easy tasks for him….which is not an easy task!!!

Scenes of the ordinary daily life…

….with “extraordinary” photographs.

We were lucky to have the visit of a young photographer, Simon Gouté, who has a passion for horses and who gave us numerous shots.

We want to show you some of them.

“Let’s be careful, they are coming!”

“Let’s go, the track is available for us!”

Vincent showed us an acrobat performance: “we don’t do an easy job”

Wilfrid and Hindou: “ A perfect partnership”!

Grégoire: “Work is done, we go back to the stables”

TZAR’S DANCER: “After work, How pleasant it is to have a roll!”

KAPVILLE: the course didn’t suit him

On July 5th at Corlay, he was 3rd in the Grand cross-country race, ridden by Thomas Beaurain.

KAPVILLE ran well but not to his best, because he didn’t like this very special race-course. Moreover, he is beaten by two specialists of this racecourse. He prefers the long straight lines with big obstacles.

We had no choice of entries before his objective of the year: The Grand cross-country race of Craon. We hesitated to enter him at Vichy but it’s always too hot there and the course doesn’t suit him anyway.

…stroke once more! On July 1st at Deauville she was 3rd in a handicap on 1900m ( a mile and 1 ½ furlong).

Ridden by Pierre-Charles Boudot, FILLE D’AVRIL started in the middle of the field, began to accelerate mid-straight and as usual she gave everything to finish with a lot of courage.

In Le Pied A L’Etrier’s clan, everyone was thrilled and a lot of messages were exchanged as all the members could not be present.

KING NONANTAIS is waking up

On July 1st at Deauville, KING NONANTAIS ran a claimer on the distance of 1900m (a mile and 1 ½ furlong), ridden by Pierre-Charles Boudot.

Always well placed during the race, KING NONANTAIS performed a nice finishing straight as a courageous fighter.

He finished 4th which was an improvement. It is encouraging as up to now we were still waiting for a progress and didn’t see any improvement in his previous races.

Pierre-Charles told us he was perfectly able to win this kind of race.

June 2015

POLITOLOGUE: good impression

He finished 2nd at Compiègne first time out over hurdles and he was already noticed that time.

On June 22nd, for his second time out at Auteuil this time, we expected him to show the improvement we saw in the morning.

We were not disappointed as he won with authority in front of serious horses.

His jockey James Reveley liked POLITOLOGUE a lot: “the horse is very interesting, he ran particularly well although still a bit immature.”

The Devin clan, owners-breeders, were particularly happy as the horse ran for the first time under the colours of his young owner Sophie Devin.

First runner, first winner!

….for her 3rd hurdle race on June 22nd at Lion d’Angers.

This filly is rather whimsical, and the instructions given to Wilfried Lajon were to take a good start and keep her going.

It was done and NOUVELLE DESTINEE took the lead, started before the last bend and won by 5 lengths without using all her resources.

We already look forward to her next race!

Always courageous BOURGUEIL

When he finished 3rd in a chase at Lion d’Angers, he showed us once more that he does his best every time out.

Always placed in the middle of the field, BOURGUEIL jumped well but made a big mistake at the last fence which might have cost him a lot.

His jockey Sébastien Zuliani told us: “it is a pleasure to ride such a horse because he does everything you want him to do!”

For your information, he is going to have well deserved holidays for a month.

AMIRANT: bad race

On June 20th at Compiègne, he ran Grand Prix, one race of the challenge Défi du Galop. He finished 5th ridden by Thierry Jarnet.
AMIRANT jumped last out of the stalls, he didn’t move as usual as the ground was too soft for his liking. On top of that, at the entrance of the finishing straight, he was blocked in and only found an opening 50m before the post.
We don’t bear him a grudge for that, as whatever the conditions are, he always does his best.

UN SUCCES: at last!

We had been looking forward to this win for a while for our UN SUCCES.

At Sables d’Olonne on June 16th in a hurdle race over 4200m (2 miles and 5 furlongs), ridden by Wilfrid Denuault.

FILLE D’AVRIL: a race to forget

On June 16th at Sables d’Olonne, FILLE D’AVRIL started as the favourite of the punters, which was justified considering her last performances. But nothing is won as long as the race is not run.

She took a very bad start, didn’t manage to come closer in the far straight and in the finishing straight she met…. “a wall” impossible to go through. Jérôme Cabre her jockey stopped urging on her and her chance was finished!

After the race we saw that Miss was under the influence of her sex…she was in season like many mares at this time of the year.

To see again!

WINGED FURY: a very good race

At Auteuil on June 15th, she finished 2nd of Prix Gilbert Gallot, beaten a length by the favourite.

Ridden by Wilfrid Denuault, she performed a beautiful race. In this chase, she started close to the lead, was very sure over the fences and finished very well.

It won’t be long before WINGED FURY opens her record with a winner.

Her owner, Douglas McMillan had travelled from Scotland to come and see his two horses, WINGED FURY and WICCALINA…Good for him!

WICCALINA discovers chasing at Auteuil

On June 15th, she finished 2nd ridden by Wilfrid Denuault.

WICCALINA started at the back of the field, jumped very well, came closer after the water (the one in the middle of the course) and finished courageously.

We are very happy with this race because she does confirm her good come back at Dieppe on May 31st.

This filly who is full of energy needs to be mastered to give her best.

SED ETIAM on the right distance

On June 14th at Lion d’Angers, he was 4th in Prix APGO, ridden by Christopher Grosbois.

SED ETIAM, a 3 year-old thoroughbred by Whipper seemed to go very easy on the 1400m (7 furlongs) of the course but he went flat out mid-straight. Well urged on by his jockey, he started again but too late to be able to get a better place.

To follow.

ZISUN: once more 3rd…

…he is not beaten much for the second place (head) at Jallais on June 14th.

Ridden by Grégory Denuault, ZISUN performed a neat and serious race. We noted a big improvement over the jumps.

We look forward to having a series of winners!!!

JADE’s LEGEND: made for jumping!

Paul Murphy’s mare performed a nice chase on June 14th at Gemozac, ridden by Wilfrid Denuault. She finished 2nd beaten by “the Macaire on duty”.

JADE’S LEGEND well placed all around, took the lead at the entrance of the last bend but was caught and passed in the last 100m by a horse who finished better.

This late mare by Flying Legend out of Ellina is 5. She has still a lot to learn but we are not worried about her over jumps as she is particularly gifted.

New jump work track

Discovery of the new work “tool” necessary for schooling young horses.

First jumps carefully supervised by the trainer

Everything goes well

 Successful bet… it’s working!!!

BALNILLA: in good company

On June 9th at Nantes, BALNILLA finished 4th over hurdles on 3500m (2 miles and 1 ½ furlong), ridden by Wilfrid Denuault.

As usual, she started at the back of the field and came closer at the end of the last turn around. She came as if she was going to have a better place but she went flat out in the last 100m.

We should not forget that she is AQPS (non-thoroughbred) and that she was facing a good quality bunch of thoroughbreds.

Next race: a chase??

SIMBA DE TEILLEE: when is he going to win?.

You obviously improve each time out. As proof, your second place in a chase at Lignières-en-Berry, with Grégory Denuault as a partner.

You can’t be reproached anything but it would be high time to win!

We still trust you.

All the staff of Etienne Leenders’s stables.

Summit meeting!

4 months after the beginning of our syndicate Le Pied A L’Etrier, we met at Jarzé to make the first adjustments.

Paul Terpereau (administration and office work), Jean-Philippe Vinet (communication and web site), Etienne Leenders (training and buying horses) and Christine Leenders (logistics and organisation), each of us presented what had been done and gave his (her) ideas for the future of our syndicate.

From left to right you can recognise FILLE D’AVRIL, BOURGUEIL and BALNILLA.

Don’t forget to visit our web site:

Something new at Les Landes

Everyone is working ( well nearly everyone!!!!) to be able to finish the small jump track as soon as possible.

ACCENTUS changes discipline

At Compiègne on June 3rd, ACCENTUS ran particularly well, finishing second over hurdles and we were happy to find the serious horse we thought he was at the beginning of his career again!

Patiently ridden at the back of the field by Wilfrid Denuault and jumping well, ACCENTUS didn’t stop gaining places all around! And, when the big dark bay horse changed gear, it was efficient!

It shows once more that with horses, patience pays back.

BOURGUEIL is going up the scales

On June 3rd at Compiègne, BOURGUEIL was 5th in a chase on 3500m (2 miles and 1 ½ furlong) ridden by Wilfrid Denuault..

He started in the middle of the field, jumped big over the large green fences at the beginning of the race and he then came closer and performed a very good finish (50m further and we would have been 3rd).

We can be satisfied with this 5th place for our AQPS (non-thoroughbred horse) who is not mature yet.

You have also to take into account the fact he was running against more experienced thoroughbreds and that he was top weight: 70 kgs.

Well done “little fellow”!

RED SLIN: 1st chase at Auteuil

RED SLIN hadn’t run since November 2nd 2014 when he was 2nd in Grand Steeple de Fontainebleau. He did his come back on June 1st at Auteuil in a “quinté” (big handicap) and finished 5th ridden by Wilfrid Denuault.

He started at the back of the field and jumped well. At the entrance of the bend he was still far back, but when Wilfrid asked him, he performed a beautiful finishing straight.

Our ambitions were only to give him a good come back as he is not yet 100% condition wise. We are fully satisfied with this place as we didn’t expect it.

Let’s see him next time!

May 2015

The month of May was good for VHISKY SINGER…

….who won his second race at Blain on the 31st in a cross-country race on 4500m (2 miles and 6 ½ furlongs), ridden by Grégory Denuault.

Nice and quiet, our VHISKY SINGER performed a nice race indeed in the company of more experiences horses.

Little by little, he is going up the scales and “earns his living”.

Good come back of our “pet”

WICCALINA had not run since December and Etienne had chosen a chase on 3500m (2 miles and 1 ½ furlong for his first race in 2015. She finished 3rd, ridden by Wilfrid Denuault.

She started at the back of the field, pulled a lot as she was very fresh. She came closer in the middle of the last turn around and finished well.

She needed this race to get back in the game.

Pleasant race of RICE BOWL

At Saint-Malo on May 31st, he ran on the flat for the second time and finished 3rd, ridden by William Saraiva.

He started well, was close to the lead, never weakened and moved well to finish. We can see his dam Caprice Meill in his way of running: courageous and obstinate.

To see RICE BOWL run pleases us a lot as he is a miraculously healed horse: at 2 months he had an obstruction of the bowels and hardly had he recovered that he got a peritonitis.

For the fun of it, his nickname in the stables is: BOL DE RIZ! (rice bowl in French).

First foal for QURISTINE

On May 27th, at Haras de la Rousselière, Quristine gave birth to a colt by No risk At All, he is chestnut as his sire.

Of course we hope he will have the same qualities as his parents.

LANGUE D’OC changes job

On May 23rd at Chateaubriant, in Prix de l’Ouest, a hurdle race for three-year-olds, LANGUE D’OC finished 3rd , ridden by Wilfrid Denuault.

Well placed all around, he jumped well and finished well.

This three-year-old thoroughbred by Doctor Dino out of Longueville, belongs to his breeders, Mrs. Ashbrooke and Mrs. Devin. He is a serious horse with a nice future ahead.

Starting being well-known?

On the day of the race of FILLE D’AVRIL at Chateaubriant, Paul Terpereau, one of the administrators and a stimulating person in Ecurie Le Pied A L’Etrier, was interviewed by Equidia.

The journalist asked him questions about the filly but also about this new syndicate which started at the beginning of 2015 and who has already a successful outcome with 2 jump horses and one mare on the flat.

FILLE D’AVRIL keeps us in suspense.

Once more, FILLE D’AVRIL pleased us when being in the finish at Chateaubriant on May 23rd, ridden by Jérôme Cabre.

Always close to the lead, she took the lead at the end of the far straight, maybe a bit too soon and she was caught back just before the finishing post.

Of course, the partners in Ecurie Le Pied A L’Etrier who were there were thrilled with this second place, but it was her 7th second place…and they wonder if she will ever win again!

Noticeable first time out of POLITOLOGUE

The gelding by Poliglote out of Scarlet Row ran first time out over hurdles at Compiègne on May 20th, ridden by Wilfrid Denuault. He finished 2nd.

Always close to the lead, POLITOLOGUE jumped very well, asked for a breather before the last bend but finished very well…10 meters further and he would have won.

This good-looking, grey, 4 year-old thoroughbred is a late horse who belongs to his breeders, Mr and Mrs. Devin.

Nice race of WINGED FURY….

….at Compiègne on May 20th , in a hurdle race on 4200m ( 2 miles and 5 furlongs). Ridden by Wilfried Lajon, she was always in the middle of the field, jumped everything well and finished well.

WINGED FURY enjoys hurdle races as well as chasing but she needs a long distance to be at her best.

Her two owners, Douglas McMillan and Pierre de la Guillonnière are thrilled with their purchase….but they look forward to a first win with her.

AMIRANT: still there

On May 20th at Maisons-Laffitte, our “international” AMIRANT is placed once more: 3rd, ridden by Thierry Jarnet.

He started in the middle of the field, accelerated at the entrance of the straight but didn’t manage to be as sharp as usual because the going was sticky. But whatever he does, we love him.

The funny thing about AMIRANT is that after his races, he doesn’t loose weight and is still as round.

VHISKY SINGER: 1st win… a cross-country race on May 17th at Château-Gontier, ridden by Grégory Denuault.

Always well placed in 2nd position, this good jumper managed to avoid all the traps of the course and didn’t weaken in the finishing straight, winning very easily.

VHISKY SINGER is a late horse: a 6 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) by Secret Singer out of Calvi IV.

He is a useful horse who only wants to run and do well!

SIMBA DE TEILLE: a good jumper

On May 17th at Le Pin au Haras, SIMBA DE TEILLE ran a chase on 3700m (2 miles and 2 ½ furlongs) with only 6 runners but it was good company.

Our horse finished 4th ridden by Wilfrid Denuault. He jumped remarkably well and was close to the lead all around. At the moment when everyone started to accelerate, he got short of speed, but nevertheless he didn’t weaken.

This 4 year-old gelding by Poliglote is late but he has nice qualities as a jumper and therefore he has all the chances to have an interesting career ahead of him.

JUPITER enjoys chasing

On May 17th at Le Pin au Haras, JUPITER won a chase very easily, ridden by Wilfrid Lajon.

He started in 3rd, 4th position, jumped too big during the first turn around the course because he was discovering the big green obstacles but once he understood, JUPITER performed the rest of the race quite easily and without any mistake.

Wilfrid told us that even if he won easily, he still had something left in the tank.

With him , we are going to go up the grades nice and quietly, hoping that he will have a good future!

Great performance of KAPVILLE

As every year, we looked forward to the main event of the first part of the year in our region: the longest race in the world, the Anjou Loire Challenge, a cross-country race on 7300m (5 miles and 4 ½ furlongs).

And once more, the public was there.

Our runner KAPVILLE finished 2nd after having performed a magnificent race. Ridden by his usual partner Wilfrid Denuault, they were in 3rd, 4th position practically all around, without a mistake or an hesitation (a treat for the spectators) and they finished in a very good action.

The only problem according to Wilfrid was at 2000m from the post at the “doubles croches” ( a sort of road crossing), Toutancarmont fell just in our horse’s legs, it stopped KAPVILLE and Wilfrid told us “After such an incident, you have to start and motivate your horse again because after 5000m ( 3 miles and a1 furlong), it does stop you.”

Anyway, we were all happy and proud of the race of our horse. Audoin Maggiar, his owner didn’t stop praising his horse.

Thank you to all the team for the morning work

BALNILLA: could do better!

When finishing 3rd in a hurdle race at Nantes on May 12th, BALNILLA pleased us once more.

She is a filly who pulls a lot and, in spite of Wilfrid Denuault ‘s ride, putting her at the back of the field from the start, she still did too much!

But with racing and staying at the back of the field, she should learn how to relax.

Her owners, the members of the syndicate Le Pied A L’Etrier do believe in her and trust her.

But there is still work to do Madam!

Interesting first time over hurdles for NOUVELLE DESTINEE

On May 12th at Saint-Malo, NOUVELLE DESTINEE ran over hurdles for the first time for her come back. She finished 3rd ridden by Wilfrid Lajon.

She started at the back of the field, was not always lucky as the race was a bit of a chaos: falls and horses changing line in front of her, etc…She is a filly to follow because she has qualities and without all these problems, she had enough speed to win.

NOUVELLE DESTINEE is by Green Tune out of Caprice Meill, who brought us so much satisfaction.

ACCENTUS winning for his come back.

On May 8th at Lion d’Angers, ACCENTUS ridden by Wilfrid Denuault won very well beating the others in Prix Mackenzie, a chase on 4000m (2 miles and 4 furlongs).

ACCENTUS was well placed all around and performed a very nice race. He accelerated at the entrance of the last bend and was never caught.

This horse has a lot of quality but he has not always been lucky. But the wheel of fortune goes and….comes!

First time over hurdles for ZISUN

On May 3rd at Vitré, ZISUN finished 3rd, ridden by Wilfried Lajon.

Still not quite regulated over jumps, he nevertheless ran well.

We expect improvement from this late 4 year-old thoroughbred by Zambezi Sun out of Sun Song.

JUPITER: 1st win…

…for his first time chasing.

At Fougères on May 1st, JUPITER won easily, ridden by Grégory Denuault. He started nice and quiet, took the lead for the second turn around and…left the other ones!

The horse obviously enjoys this discipline, because in spite of his lack of experience; he ran well.

Very good race for BOURGUEIL

On May 1st at Lion d’Angers, BOURGUEIL ran the second chase of his career. He finished 2nd , ridden by Sébastien Zuliani.

Always well placed during the race, he didn’t make any mistakes and finished well: a neat and serious race.

When getting off, Sébastien was just sorry there was a bit of messing about in the last bend which “cost him the win”.

Looking forward to his next race!

FILLE D’AVRIL under her new colours

Once more, FILLE D’AVRIL didn’t disappoint us. She ran well and finished 2nd in a flat race on 1400m (7 furlongs).

Her jockey Adrien Fouassier was less satisfied than we were. He told us he came too soon and that if he had been more patient, he would have won.

Her new colours suit her well and all the members of Ecurie Pied A L’Etrier look forward to her next race.

It was already happiness!

Some of the members of Ecurie Le Pied A L’Etrier were present at Lion d’Angers on May 1st to support BOURGUEIL and FILLE D’AVRIL who both finished second.

Even if they didn’t win, everyone was happy to share a privileged time.

April 2015

Promising first race for AFFAIRE D’HONNEUR

On April 28th at Enghien, he finished 2nd of a hurdle race for 4 year-old colts, geldings and fillies on 3500m (2 miles and 1 ½ furlong) ridden by Thomas Beaurain.

He started in the middle of the field, jumped well but made a small mistake at the one but last hurdle. He then started again to finish very fast. His jockey told us that this mistake cost him the win.

AFFAIRE D’HONNEUR is a 4 year-old thoroughbred by Shirocco out of Affaire de Mœurs, bred in Sarthe by Madame Henri Devin.

A horse for the future!

First win for SET DANCER

At Nort-sur-Erdre on April 26th, SET DANCER didn’t go into details : he won a chase easily, ridden with a lot of confidence by Sébastien Zuliani.

Because of a lack of experience, he hesitated over some fences but this is a problem which will be solved with racing.

SET DANCER is a 5 year-old horse by Irish Wells out of Steel Dancer bred by his owner Marie-Cécile de Saint-Seine.

There is a lot of pressure on his shoulders because his brother is …..TZAR’S DANCER!!!

Therefore, the challenge is a serious one for him…

MARQUISETTE, first chase…

…at Auteuil on April 26th .

Good behaviour of this daughter of Martaline who finished 2nd ridden by Thomas Beaurain.

Well placed all around, MARQUISETTE was a bit whimsical over the small fences, but gained 2 lengths jumping the big open-ditch. At the entrance of the straight, she improved and finished courageously.

Her owners breeders, Mr and Mrs. Lepée, were quite satisfied with this first big chase of their mare.

Always there our AMIRANT!

On April 23rd at Longchamp, AMIRANT won fame again when finishing 3rd in the big handicap, ridden by Thierry Jarnet.

Well placed all around, he accelerated like the others but the winner and the second carried less weight and Thierry told us that in the finishing straight, it created a difference.

Whatever the race, whatever the weight…AMIRANT is always there! An ideal horse!

Preparatory race for KAPVILLE

In Prix Bourgeonneau at Lion d’Angers on April 20th, KAPVILLE finished 2nd.

He ran very well, was perfect over the fences, well placed all around, and he finished well.

Wilfrid Denuault told us that after the “piano” (it’s like a staircase going both up and down), he had a blank moment and the time he started again…..the winner had not waited for him.

We are not worried, he will be perfectly ready for the Grand Cross-country race Anjou Loir Challenge on May 14th.

BALNILLA is improving!

On April 20th at Lion d’Angers, BALNILLA finished 3rd over hurdles in a race for AQPS (non-thoroughbred), ridden by Wilfrid Denuault.

In order to master her spirit, Wilfrid chose to isolate her and to start at the back of the field. As she jumped well, she came closer little by little and performed a very nice finishing straight.

When he came back, her jockey said:” We have to go on treating her this way and she will go on improving”.

Her owners, members of Ecurie Le Pied A L’Etrier, were thrilled to see their filly behaving so well.

We drank champagne to this 3rd place….How are we going to celebrate when she wins!!!

First time over jumps…

…for BONANIVERSERE PAPA at Lion d’Angers on April 20th where he finished 4th ridden by Sébastien Zuliani.

This 4 year-old AQPS needed the race because he has to learn to settle. He started in the middle of the field, pulled, jumped irregularly but did a good bit to finish.

A horse to follow!

BEJAYA’s noticeable first time out

At Lion d’Angers on April 20th, BEJAYA finished 2nd in a flat race on 2300m ( a mile and 3 ½ furlongs), ridden by Christopher Grosbois.

She was last getting out of the stalls. Nice and quiet, she passed horses and once she was balanced at the entrance of the straight she finished remarkably well.

She was beaten by a horse with more experience. We are quite happy with this result as in the morning she did well in her works and in spite of her lack of experience she did run well!

BEJAYA is a 4 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) by Califet out of Djurjura. She was bred at Haras de Maulepaire and she belongs to her breeder Madame de Tarragon.

At last KILARE……

….ran in a normal way on April 19th at Jallais over hurdles on 3700m (2 miles and 2 ½ furlongs). He was 3rd, ridden by Grégory Denuault.

He might not be a champion, but since he started running, we were looking forward to some result… and it took some time to happen.

KILARE is a late, big horse ( by Khalkevi out of Pilare) and we hope that this correct race has taught him the “job”!

…..her cruising speed back.

On April 19th, she ran a cross-country race at Durtal on 4400m (2 miles and 6 furlongs) and finished 3rd ridden by Wilfrid Lajon.

Well placed all around, she jumped well but didn’t like at all the way out of the quarry. And twice, she lost a lot of ground when jumping completely to the left.

As every year, our GAZELLE will be jogging quietly along.

SIMBA DE TEILLE: a bit shy!

On April 18th at Jallais, SIMBA DE TEILLE was 3rd in a chase, ridden by Wilfrid Denuault.

He can’t be reproached much, because he ran well. But as he is not mature enough, he doesn’t do as much as he could.

Experience comes with running!

…for Ireland!
Actually, BULLE DE CHAMPAGNE left to become a brood mare in one of the most important studs in the world: Coolmore Stud.
Her pedigree is quite interesting for breeding (by Hurricane Run out of Serisia) and her half-brother Contributer (by High Chaparral out of Serisia) has just won 2 Group 1 races in Australia.
This good family comes from Lady O’ Reilly’s breeding operation.

ASTREE DE BRETAGNE, a 5 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) by Linda’s Lad out of Isba de Bretagne, arrived in our stables last winter. She is an interesting mare but she is very late due to small health problems.
She ran a flat race at Lisieux on April 12th on 2600m (a mile and 5 furlongs) and finished 3rd ridden by Jérôme Cabre.
Her jockey was happy with her and told us that she was not mature yet and that she was beaten by a lack of experience.
She belongs to her breeders, Mr and Mrs. Geffroy.

LANGUE D’OC, a future jump horse

LANGUE D’OC ran a flat race at Saumur on April 12th, ridden by Christopher Grosbois and finished 4th.
This race on 3200m (2 miles) was for future jump horses. In England you have quite often this type of races that they call “bumpers”. Unfortunately, there are very few in France.
LANGUE D’OC is a 3 year-old thoroughbred by Doctor Dino out of Longueville, he was bred by his owners Mrs. Ashbrooke and Mrs. Devin.

DE BON ALOI: an inaccurate race

In the “quinté” (big handicap) of Longchamp on April 12th , DE BON ALOI started among the favourites.
Unfortunately, he got number 15 in the stalls and in spite of a good start, Mickaël Barzalona never managed to hide him.
The horse performed the whole race uncovered, “consumed too much petrol” and was not able to finish.
To see again in better conditions.

MERCIAN KING didn’t like Cholet

On April 9th on the racecourse of Cholet, MERCIAN KING finished 5th over hurdles, ridden by Wilfrid Denuault.
Well placed all around, he jumped well but at the entrance of the bend, when everyone started he was short of speed. He came back to finish but by then the other ones were quite far ahead.
The racecourse of Cholet has a good reputation which is justified for its flat tracks and for its racing conditions, but the hurdles are quite old and have not been changed for about twenty years.

On April 7th  CAP BRESIL ran over hurdles for the first time at Nantes and finished 5th, ridden by Alain de Chitray.

This three-year-old thoroughbred is by Blue Brésil out of Ultratlantique. He was running for the first time and needed the race.

During the race he made two mistakes, one of which at the last but one hurdle which did cost him a better place.

This late horse needed to run and it will be interesting to follow his next outing.

…ran well once more at Lion d’Angers on April 6th. She finished 3rd ridden by Jérôme Cabre.

She found the soft ground she prefers and once more, she “gave” all that she had!

FILLE D’AVRIL is a mare who never disappointed us. She can do everything….she can run from 1400m (7 furlongs) to 2000m (a mile and two furlongs), on any race-course and ridden by different jockeys!!

She is a Genius!

First time out carefully supported for BOURGUEIL!

On April 5rh at Fougères, several partners of Ecurie Le Pied A L’Etrier had come to support their second horse BOURGUEIL who ran first time out in a chase.

Good for them because their horse ran well.

He started in last position, came closer little by little, jumped well and finished well and took the 3rd place.

His jockey Sébastien Zuliani rode him with a lot of confidence and seemed to be happy with the race of his partner.

BOURGUEIL is a 4 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) by Saddler Maker out of Quistis bred in Nièvre by Hervé d’Armaillé.

DIRZAD: successful first time out!

On April 4th at Vire, DIRZAD won without having any opposition, ridden by Mathieu Androuin. It was a race on 1800m (a mile and one furlong).

Well placed all around, he accelerated at the entrance of the finishing straight and was never contested.

The colt showed us interesting things in the morning and we were not disappointed in the afternoon.

This 4 year-old thoroughbred by Spirit One out of Pirouz, was bred by his owner Homayoun Minoui.

From now on, we’ll follow DIRAZ on Parisian tracks.

BINIOU DES AULMES doesn’t really like…

…heavy going!!

On April 5th at Vire he finished 4th ridden by Mathieu Androuin.

BINIOU started in second position and kept this place around. But at the time of the finish he couldn’t deal with the more heavy part of the track and couldn’t express himself.

It was a pity, because we know that this 4 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) by Khalkevi is better than what the result shows.

He has the whole year to catch up!

Come back for HINDOU

On April 3rd at Auteuil, HINDOU did a come back in a chase ridden by Wilfrid Denuault.

It was a difficult race for him: the ground was very heavy and he was not quite ready. He had to work hard to be 5th.

The racing year only starts and the ground will improve!

Nice performance for CAVTAT

On April 2nd at Maisons-Laffitte, CAVTAT finished 3rd on 2000m (a mile and two furlongs) in quite good company. He was ridden by Maxime Guyon.

It was his second race and he behaved very well. He started in the middle of the field, was a bit blocked in in the straight but, as soon as he managed to get out, he changed gear and he was the one who finished faster.

Maxime Guyon told us that if he had been more at ease in the straight he would have finished closer.

CAVTAT will pursue his career on the flat on Parisian tracks.

AMIRANT: good come back

On April 1st at Saint-Cloud , AMIRANT ran in good company and showed us that we could still rely on him this year. He finished 2nd, ridden by Thierry Jarnet.

The race was run very fast as the pacemaker was 6/7 lengths ahead and AMIRANT had the hard task to bring back the rest of the field. In spite of that, he performed a nice finishing straight.

Thierry Jarnet was thrilled with his “young” 7 year-old horse and said: “he’s grown younger, he was as happy as a young colt”.

Convincing come back for KAPVILLE

The Grand cross-country race of Fontainebleau took place on April 1st with 8 runners. For three quarters of the horses it was a very unlucky race!

KAPVILLE finished 2nd behind Toutancarmont, performing a fantastic race. Ridden perfectly by Wilfrid Denuault, he jumped very well, and in the finish, he made the winner work, and the winner is not just any one!

Next step, the Anjou Loire Challenge on May 14th at Lion d’Angers…when we are going to take revenge!!!

WINGED FURY over hurdles

On April 1st, WINGED FURY changed discipline and finished 4th at Fontainebleau, ridden by Wilfrid Denuault.

In a race run at a very fast pace, she started in the middle of the field and didn’t stop improving her position all around. Used to the rhythm of chasing, she was short of speed but performed a very nice finishing straight.

A good year to look forward for Douglas McMillan’s mare, who was bred by Paul Murphy.

March 2015

The “President” is back

This morning, our dear TZAR’S DANCER came back from holidays. He came back from Haras de Maulepaire in a superb condition, ready to resume work and to fight.

We have not yet any definite objective, we’ll decide according to his preparation.

Convincing first time out for BERRY DES AULMES

This 4 year-old AQPS by Smadoun out of Opaline des Aulmes was second at Machecoul on March 29th in a flat race on 2350m (a mile and 3 ½ furlongs), he was ridden by Fabrice Véron.

He was among the horses in the lead at the beginning and started hardening the race at the entrance of the finishing straight. He came as if he was going to win but got beaten at the post.

BERRY DES AULMES won’t stop at that point because he has a good margin of improvement. He belongs to his breeder, Emmanuel Bodard.

First time out for BONANIVERSERE PAPA…

…at Saumur on March 29th  in a flat race. He finished 2nd ridden by Antoine Samson.

On 3200m (two miles), BONANIVERSERE PAPA started in the middle of the field and at the entrance of the bend, he started passing other horses. Well balanced, he performed a very nice finishing straight and was only beaten on the post.

Before the race we were quite confident as the horse was showing us nice ability in the morning.

BONANIVERSERE PAPA (by Alberto Giacometti out of Kusea) is a 4 year-old AQPS from the Gondouin-Leenders breeding operation and he is from the family of Gondleen and Chriseti.

Good come back for MARQUISETTE

On March 29th at Meslay-du-Maine, she finished second in a chase on 3500m (2 miles and 1 ½ furlong), ridden by Gregory Denuault.

She started in 3rd, 4th position and jumped remarkably well. She was in the lead at the last fence of the far straight, then lost some ground but performed a nice finishing straight.

MARQUISETTE was not quite ready but she behaved well and proved to be made for this discipline.

Good race for DREAM CAT

On March 24th at Nantes, DREAM CAT finished 3rd in Prix de la Tortière on 1600m (a mile), ridden by Mathieu Androuin.

Always well placed in the field, she was going less well in the descent but then, pulled herself together and performed a nice finishing straight.

This 3 year-old filly by Hurricane Cat out of Edlihtam has still a nice margin of improvement and is certainly going to do well in 2015.

ARISTO DES MOTTES: first chase at Auteuil

In a race for 5 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred), ARISTO DES MOTTES finished 3rd, ridden by Wilfrid Denuault.

He started in the lead, jumped remarkably well for a horse who discovered this course and fences. But he was too keen and pulled for half of the race and he paid for it at the finish.

ARISTO will have to learn how to manage his energy and to spare himself.

VRAIMENT MAG for the first time in a cross-country race

On March 22nd at Blain, VRAIMENT MAG discovered another discipline which seemed to suit him: he finished second ridden by Sébastien Zuliani. It was a cross-country race for 5 and 6 year-old horses on 4500m (2 miles and 6 ½ furlongs).

Short of speed, he started at the back of the field but, thanks to his qualities as a jumper, he didn’t stop improving his position. Unfortunately, he jumped the one but last fence too big and slightly nosed-down…which cost him the win.

VRAIMENT MAG is a six year-old thoroughbred by Saint des Saints out of Koolanooga. He didn’t run much because he is a big late horse measuring 1,75m (17.2 hh). Antoine-Audouin Maggiar is owner and breeder.

MERCIAN KING: convincing first time out

For his first race at Argentan on March 15th, MERCIAN KING behaved very well and finished 2nd, ridden by Wilfrid Denuault. This race was a maiden for 4 year-old horses on the distance of 3600m (2 miles and 2 furlongs).

He started in 5th/6th position, jumped everything well, and came closer in the far straight. Before the last hurdle he was in second position and was only beaten a neck.

MERCIAN KING is a 4 year-old thoroughbred by Robin des Prés out of Mariah Rollins. He is bred by his owner Paul Murphy.

CAVTAT: good first time out

On March 15th at Angers, CAVTAT finished second in a flat race on 2100m (a mile and 2 ½ furlongs), ridden by Jérôme Cabre.

He jumped well out of the stalls, found himself in the lead, but didn’t pull and was very easy and relaxed. He performed a good finishing straight and missed the win by little.

Nothing to regret: it is sometimes better to be second at the beginning of the year because you are not penalized for the future entries.

Douglas McMillan’s horse is a 3 year-old thoroughbred by Doctor Dino out of Steadfast.

New discipline for BRIN DE FILLE

On March 15th at Argentan, BRIN DE FILLE ( by Al Namix out of Moskoville) finished 4th in her first chase, ridden by Wilfrid Denuault.

A little bit lost from the start, she jumped big but, as the race was going on , she understood and adapted herself.

BRIN DE FILLE is a 4 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) coming from a good family of the J. Cyprès’s breeding operation. She is nothing else but Vieux Morvan’s sister. We wish her the same career!!!

First foal

On February 21st at Haras de la Rousselière, KUSEA ( by Useful) gave birth to a colt foal by Shamalgan.

This off spring is from the family of Chriseti.

Second foal

On March 8th, at Haras de la Rousselière, a very nice colt foal by Denham Red out of LIGERIENNE (by Khalkevi) was born.

We are very happy because at the Cheltenham festival, we saw a very good Gr1 winner by Denham Red: Un de Sceaux!!!

1st win...

On March 8th at Saumur, BEJCA succeeded brilliantly her first time out on the flat, surely winning, ridden by Mathieu Tavares Da Silva.

This “bumper” on 3200m (2 miles) was for maiden 4 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred), colts, fillies and geldings.

The filly started in the middle of the field and at the end of the second time around, she started improving her position to come and win easily. Her jockey told us he was surprised how easy she managed to win.

BEJCA is a filly by Puits d’Or out of Fortanea and her half brother is Saint Are (by Network), winner of a Gr1 in Great Britain and potential favourite of the Grand National of Liverpool.

Start of the racing syndicate Le Pied A L’Etrier

On March 8th on the race-course of Senonnes-Pouancé, some members of our racing syndicate Le Pied A L’Etrier came to see their first runner. They were really looking forward to seeing their first runner as the creation of the syndicate was a long road with a lot of difficulties…!

BALNILLA ran over hurdles for the second time ridden by Wilfried Lajon. The race didn’t finish with a win because the filly pulled a lot, but we know that she will catch up during the year.

All the members of the syndicate are not on the photograph but we know that they were active supporters.

Looking forward to the next race!

The colours!

On the photograph you can see BALNILLA and the jockey Wilfried Lajon with the colours of the syndicate: Le Pied A L’Etrier.

February 2015

Good news

On February 16th, we received the agreement of France Galop for the starting of our racing syndicate: Ecurie LE PIED A L’ETRIER.

We thank all our members for their patience because syndicates are always long to settle.

Let’s meet on the racecourses in March for the first runners of the syndicate!

A friend passed away

On February 9th, Yann Poirier aged 44, passed away after being gravely injured by a horse.

All of us are very upset by his death. He will be terribly missed:

-  we’ll miss the friend, our meetings and conversations……champagne after the wins in his small sitting-room with Anne-Marie.

-  we’ll miss the professional we have been working with for more than 20 years. He was a precursor and invented his job of horse breaker and pre-trainer.

How many of our good horses went through him!

Farewell Yann, we are sure you are in the paradise of horses.

Good come back for ARISTO

On February 11th at Angers, ARISTO DES MOTTES placed 2nd in Prix René Couétil, a hurdle race on 3800m (2 miles and 3 furlongs), ridden by Wilfrid Denuault.

He started in the middle of the field. Second time around, the winner and himself took the lead well in front of the others and they finished very well quite above the other horses.

ARISTO ran very well, he is as well over hurdles as in chases. He needed the race to be in the swing of things.

Good first time out for our first runner

BINIOU DES AULMES ridden by Christopher Grosbois was good second in a flat race at Machecoul.

He started in the lead but his jockey took him back to 3rd; 4th position all around. When the other horses started at the entrance of the last bend, BINIOU was short of speed, but when he did start, he performed a beautiful finishing straight, missing the win by little.

Emmanuel Bodard’s horse shows us very decent work in the morning and we are quite happy with his first race.

His pedigree: a 4 year-old AQPS (non-thoroughbred) gelding by Khalkevi out of My Wish Aulmes.

The new season starts,

at last it is on the way!!!

After a month and a half without racing, horses and riders started being bored.

The morning work is quite important but there is a stage when you feel like seeing the result on the race-courses with the young horses first time out.

January 2015

Morning work…

… when it’s not always warm !

The light is beautiful but riders and horses are looking forward to spring.

A nice year 2014…

… with, as a highlight TZAR’S DANCER’s wonderful win in Prix du Président de la République and 4th place in the Grand Chase of Paris.

Noticeable facts:

-          Total prize money won by horses in 2014: 1.342.600€ divided in 2/3 over jumps and 1/3 on the flat ( in 2013 it was 50% over jumps and 50% on the flat). Everything always depends on the horses we receive.

-          The end of URBAINE at Auteuil after her 7 wins on the flat in 2013.

-          USHUAIA QUATZ, UNE VAGUE and STARTLING DU MAGNY leaving the stables to become brood mares

-          And like every year, real disappointments and also nice surprises.

Let’s start 2015 which appears like a good vintage.

A New Year!

Please receive all our best wishes for 2015… Our stables have a lot of new projects…and in particular:

The first runners of our syndicate: “Le Pied à L’Etrier” which was created during the last term of 2014 and will have its first runners in spring 2015!

Happy new year to all of you.
